Doing the exercise of "who is penciled in" next year and woof is this roster wide open:

Geekie - Lindholm - Pasta
Xxxx - xxxx - xxxxx
xxxx - Minten - xxxx
xxxx - Kastellic - xxxx

Lindholm - McAvoy
Zadorov - xxxx
Lohrei - Peeke

Swayman
Korpisalo

The only one I'm going out on a limb for is Minten because I think he's passed the eye test of being a NHLer and I like his size. I want to see a full season of him at 3C and see what that looks like. I hope Khusnutdinov and Lysell could capture 3rd line roles as well, but they haven't done enough to be given a spot next year. Lindholm is just locked into that line because of his contract for better or for worse.

Everything else I'm open too any guy capturing a spot on this roster in camp. Get the highest pick you can and only target impact guys in free agency (IE Marner or Ehlers). Don't care about anyone else in Free Agency really.. If Hall or Marchand want to come back for the right price.. Sure I guess. This roster needs to find younger, impact players and move forward though.
You make Lohrei play another 600 minutes with Peeke he’s going to be in a mental institution.

Zacha's not penciled in but Kastelic & Minten are?
Zacha is in the driver seat for 2LW yes. However, I think this roster is composed of the same kind of guys like Zacha and Mittlestadt who are pass first guys and I think they should be looking to upgrade on.

Maybe you have a point that you can't upgrade that many holes in one offseason. But I just want a fresh look for the second line moving forward.

If you can find an upgrade for under $5 mil for the next 3 seasons, yes, let's get that guy to replace Zacha.

No idea at this point.

But if I was to pencil in Kastelic, it would be at RW 4th line, not center.
Yeah, you could be right. I think they like that Kastellic is good on the draws and is a natural center. Just extended him a few months ago. Maybe he’s more just a 4th line lock than a specific position on the line.

He could still take faceoffs as a winger. He's more useful along the boards than almost any other forward they have. And being a right shot is a big plus for a winger on this team also.

Greg Hill WEEI reporting a resignation from Bruins front office coming on Wednesday…

Wonder who this could be. I doubt it’s this right now, but I’m curious in the future if there is a scenario where Neely could move on and Sweeney steps up, with Evan Gold replacing Sweens as GM. Probably something much smaller though. I think Kelly is gone this summer for sure, but that’s not considered front office, right? Just bench?

Why? Just QO him and if you waive him after preseason and he gets claimed you lose him for free then instead of now.
Because I don't think he's a good hockey player and they should look elsewhere. Nice kid and all, but that's my feeling.

Scored a big goal in the Toronto series last year, but I don't think he's ever really brought much to this team since he's arrived.

Only guy I see out to lunch enough to take #11 without retention and giving say a 5th round pick is Guerin. Otherwise you are looking at minimum $1M retention and attaching a 4th round pick. I would do that if it meant being able to be bringing in Tavares and Marchand.

It’s unfortunate that Mittelstadt hasn’t showed any value really since coming to Boston. Your best bet in moving on from him return wise is to get him on track next season. That said, I really wish we could offload him this summer. When originally planning to trade Coyle, I think we all assumed we would be clear of that 5.25mil this summer, not adding an extra 500k to it. There are some select teams with money and players on the move or a lack of skill/depth at the position who Mittelstadt could maybe make sense for like Columbus, Chicago, Winnipeg. More so for teams like Chicago/WPG where players don’t exactly get excited to sign up with when in free agency because of location or how good the team is. Can’t say what we’d get for him or if/how much retention, but I don’t think the market is dry per se. I just don’t like moving Zacha unless something really shows up and is an upgrade, because you can’t replace his production for less money or close to it without someone on an ELC, or a turnaround miracle like he himself was, or Geekie.

I wish I there was a 'hate' button for posts.

I don't see a reason he even gets a QO. He's shown what he is at an NHL level.

Is it the end of the world if he does? No. But they should 100% look elsewhere.

I know we're talking about the 4th line here, but if Beecher is even qualified this offseason that tells me management isn't serious about trying to upgrade the roster for the coming season.

I wouldn't qualify him but I would be shocked if they don't. Just seems like the type of player this management team gives a lot of rope to. Former 1st rounder, big, skates well. Pretty much what they loaded up on last summer.

Agreed- no point in just cutting him loose after the season. While not likely at this point (at least to my eyes), he could still grow his game and be worth persisting with for another year, and Providence needs players as well. Qualify him, and unless he knocks the socks off staff at camp and in pre-season, stick him on the Baby B's and you've got a player that can help there and also be called up in a 'break glass' situation.

I just think something has to give with these middle 6 guys including Zacha, Mittlestadt, Poitras, Minten, Khusnutdinov, Lindholm.. They're all natural centers competing for essentially 2 or 3 spots and they all more or less bring the same thing to the table. If all of those guys are in your middle 6 come next season we will be talking about Gavin McKenna this time next year.

This team has the second worst winning percentage since the trade deadline. Maybe a trade with one of those guys happens for an equivalent level winger or something. It's interesting to me that this team loves just getting centers and putting them on the wing to fill out their roster.
