Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XX

so a buddy of mine were yakking about the B`s open spots this summer, by my count/guess this is what we`ll be looking at

C- Zacha/Lindholm/Middlestadt/ X
RW- Pasta/X/X/Kastelic
LW- Geeks (he`ll re-sign)/X/X/X not sure if Khusnutdinov is on opening day lineup

D- Zadorov/Lohrei/McAvoy/Peeke and I believe they re-sign Jokiharju/X

So 6/7 spots open , man , lots of opportunity for a kid or have to be filled with FA Signing

Yeah that list gets really ugly really quick. Unless you want to shop in the old age home you are looking at Donato being a top 5/6 forward available

Regarding the list above: I know the Bruins need forwards but I'd be very happy if the Bruins picked up Pionk at that price tag. Maybe I'm crazy but I think that's a great deal and if the Bruins want to compete, they need a top 4 RHD. Peake and Joker have their moments but are essentially bottom pairing guys. The downside is that it ties up a lot of money in the top 4 blueline while the offense desperately needs another impact forward or two.

Call me crazy again, but if that's the Donato deal, I want him in Boston too. I think he's decent 2/3 year stop-gap while they find some prospects that will eventually take his spot.

If Marner isn't an option(which I doubt he will be)Pionk is the guy I'd go after as well. I like Ehlers but I wouldn't feel comfortable giving him a big deal. Fill out the forward group with unsigned rfas and low risk 1 year Ufa deals. I doubt they'll be contending next year so see what's available in 2026 for big name forwards. Your D would be pretty well set moving forward.

Some of these projected numbers are funny. Boeser at 9? lol, I can’t imagine more than 7 after this year. Marner feels low but love him for that. Ehlers low.

-Don’t know how Dallas pays Duchene even half the money he deserves without sending names out, and that’s before resigning Benn.
- Perbix could be solid, especially if you trade Peeke.
- we need the next “ Drouin”, someone cheap that ends up putting up points on the left side.
-Hall would be a stabilizing vet that can score in the middle 6
- Bennet price seems appropriate. No way I sign him without a bigger upgrade to wing and center first though.
- Roslovic would be solid on the third line for 500k less.
- Donato for 2.4? Wouldn’t hate that for depth. That helps us with Geekie signing too.
- Pionk prevents you from adding an impact scorer up top without moving names out, but great for 2nd pairing.
-Ekblad too many miles on him, but would be an excellent RD behind Mac
- Gavrikov…

The last 25 players taken 4th overall. Still feels like it's only great about 30% of the time? 3rd overall seems to produce a bit better. By 2nd overall, eyeballing it it's like 75% studs.

Didn't realize the gaps between 2-3-4 were still so great.

I’d be happy with 7 of the last 10 and that’s not counting Wright

Yeah. Top of the draft has changed quite a bit in the last decade. Most of these guys have been watched since they were 12 if not earlier.
Starting with Backstrom in 2006 it seems more reliably top 6. Since 2006, 4 are top 20 players in the league at their position at some point in their career looking at Marner, Tkachuk, Backstrom, and Pietrangelo. If you include will smith who is clearly on that path, thats ~25%

Guessing this is what is on tap for next year?

Poitras not a lock imo either. It;s just not a great group even if you add a couple UFA

It's not dynasty level, no, but depending on the UFA adds and whoever they get in the draft (that should be able to play in the league next year), it could be decent. You factor in a restored D corps, and a Swayman bounce back and you have a playoff team. Probably not a cup contender, but you never know. Alternatively, it is a team that misses again, but shouldn't be a lottery team, either.

I will say it again, the team may not be good but the fact I no longer have to watch Coyle, Carlo, Brazeau and Freddy is reason enough for me to tune in. I do want a new management team but will be grateful to Don for this forever

For them to retool, they need to invest two years doing it. They won’t be able to bounce back in one year. They should plan accordingly. Another high pick in next years draft is crucial. Next offseason they can go after free agents and spend some money.

Agreed, because I have just enjoyed watching, Elias Lindholm at 7.8 mil and Swayman at 8.2 mil so much.

I’ll say it till I’m blue in the face, I know I’m a broken record. We need an offer sheet on this kid. 6’3 and 212pound left wing , with 39pts in his second season. Turned 23 two months ago. Rangers are broke as heck this summer and can’t afford him with 7 RFAs and 2 UFAs and only 9mil in cap space. Put him and Marner/Pasta on the same line? Wheewweeeee. Solid in middle 6 regardless.

I agree, they need two impact forwards to round out the top 6.

But they also can't go into next year with Peeke or Joker as the top 4 RHD and expect to compete for a playoff spot IMO.
