Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XX

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Would you rather sign Marner (who's the best player available) or would you rather sign Ehlers and Boeser? Both could potentially be signed for $15-16M combined.

Or do you not really make much of a splash in the offseason and put this product back on the ice for 2025-26?
Signing both Ehlers and Boeser (if you’re also signing Geekie) will be fine for a year or so, but then you’d regret it because you don’t want to move another expensive contract down to your third line like Elias when a better player comes along via FA, Trade, or development. You’d be handcuffing yourself a bit. I’d rather just have one player and explore trades, RFA, even shoring up defense more if there is that much money left. Boeser isn’t that exciting for his likely 7.25-8. Ehlers will be more. Boeser would also give us way too many of the Canucks leftovers.

I don’t get the Marner hate here. Over the last three years he’s 8th in the league in points and 7th in P/PG.

Not enough sample size? In the last half decade he’s 5th in points. With one more point in those 5 years than the 6th placed player, David Pastrnak.

He’s a premier, elite, playmaking winger who is above average defensively and plays both PP and PK.

He’ll command anywhere from 11-13% of the cap like his peers so yes, he’ll get more than Pastrnak. Thats just a function of the cap increase and how contract negotiations work.
If Marner hits the open market you make your pitch. Guy is a full on talent that you dont pass up. Especially if you're trying to sell folks on a retool with this current core.

Realistically I see him somehow staying in Toronto. He loves it there (though it doesnt always seem mutual lol).

IMO he would THRIVE in a quieter market.

Bruins have to target Marner who is a tier above Ehlers and Boeser. I think the Bruins could target Ehlers and Boeser-level players on the trade market.

Big pass on Boeser he's good, but not worth money he'll get imo. Ehlers I would like and there's been rumors out there of the bruins being interested in him in the past. Marner a no-brainer world class players like him don't hit the open market that often and if he does, Sweeney needs to throw the kitchen sink at him.

Agree 100% if a talented player as Marner become available and you re a team like the Bs with almost nothing, you need to make hard pitch on him, a 2 way high skill player like him is rarely available....

It will and it will be easy dont be shocked Bs will not win any games til the end...
looking at the standings and remaining schedule, I think Seattle and Pittsburgh have a good chance of passing the bruins, maybe the flyers, but i'm thinking the Sabres have a better chance than the Flyers. I hope they all do. Sucks for the players though, especially Pasta.

Why Pasta? Im sure he will survive. Hopefully he hangs in there with 9 left to go.

Look at this roster. Nearly everyone is an AHLER tweenier at best. Pasta the lone elite player here and he deserves better, hell the others or the majority of them are just looking at this as hey were in the NHL.

Hell you could replace the majority of this roster with players down in Providence and arguably give them a better chance of winning. I hope they don't, because I like the way their trending, but like I said, I don't like it for the players losing sucks no matter at what level your at.

Cap always goes up when Leafs or Oilers need cash to keep stars :sarcasm:.Serious note I could never see him in Boston without severe overpayment and even then I doubt it .

You’re trying to tell me you wouldn’t include a first in a deal for a young signed top line center that has scored more than 100 points?
He had 100 points once and has averaged less than 73 points over his 6 full seasons. And an $11.6 million cap hit ( for 7 more seasons ) is a lot to pay for that kind of production.

a name I was thinking about was Matias Macceli from Utah having a bit of a down year due to Utah focusing more on the development of guenther, Hayton, Cooley and giving them better opportunities but I’d rather acquire him for cheap then go and spend 12-14 mill on Marner.

Yes you loose the defensive and pk abilities Marner brings but in terms of passing Macceli was right up there with the best of them during the 22-23 and 23-24 seasons in terms of the analytics like completion % higher danger passes completed etc etc. He was making Crouse/ carcone look like top 6ers.

I’d be interested to see him on a line with Geekie and Zacha if they choose to even out the lines.

Pasta x Mittelstadt take a rook
Zacha x Geekie x Macceli (should keep Geekie maintaining 20-30 goals)
Marchy? x Lindholm take a rook.

I’d also be okay with Mittelstadt pasta lindholm they have seemed to have built some chem at the end here on the PP mostly.

Bruins are a few more losses from being in 5-6 territory

2 1/2 weeks to go they could end up 4

Nashville blows a win just when I was thinking 3 could happen

It’s always been McQueen but …..
