Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XX

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Gotta keep that '26 1st rounder. If DS is still here by the deadline next year and this team is even sniffing a playoff spot, he's gonna trade it. Hopefully he doesn't trade it this off season. Man I am just depressing myself the more I keep typing.

Oh I agree, I'm just saying what it would likely cost to try to get into the top 4, if they don't win the lottery. And i don't think that pick even gets you into the discussion for Misa at this point

When is the last time anyone moved up for a top five pick much less top two? The cost of doing that is prohibitive. It’s not the NFL.
Off the top of my head. Brian Burke for one of the Sedins and Harry did it with Kluzak. So yea doesn’t happen often and it’s been a while, but hey when was the last time a GM traded to have 3 consecutive picks in the first round and who was that guy ??

So yea unlikely but not improbable

Jacobs is fine with spending, he knows he needs to put the team in the playoff hunt next year if they want to sell out and sell beer.

I think the only people who don't want to spend money are the burn it to the ground and tank folks
I am not against spending but I am against spending just to spend like they have done a couple times already.Sweeney needs to be smarter. These wastes of cap on players like Max Jones type players needs to stop.

Ladies and gentlemen, your vaunted Boston Bruins culture,

Amazing they are going to let this group do the rebuild after not being able to win with inheriting Bergeron, Rask, Krejci, Marchand, Chara, Hamilton, Krug and Pasta. Made it past round 2 once. Going on their fourth coach too.
That was a Hall of Fame core and you can add Lucic to the group of players, but In defense of Sweeney he did load up a couple of seasons, but in the end it wasn’t in the cards.

On the down side outside of McAvoy he hasn’t hit it big in the draft and his FA signings has too often set this team back, putting them up against the cap and has caused him to lose assets.

A large list of top 6 forwards have been acquired by other teams in his tenure, but he’s failed to bring in a legit top six forward for an extended period of time. He now has had to gut this team and it’s a far cry from when he took over.

So a change is more than warranted but Sweeney also has a plan and with the best intentions there’s no doubt in my mind as he did when he took over, but this time he’s entering brand new territory with a far weaker core and there’s no magic recipe that guarantees success even with a change of management but IMO it’s time.

Just can’t afford more misses at the draft table and spending cap during the off season on players who tend to set this team back., there’s no longer a Bergy Marchy , Chara and company to help hide his glaring mistakes.

For our 2nd round picks, I’m curious who we could add onto one of the positions to get high enough to grab Carter Amico. Simon wang would be a fun flyer if he falls that low.

Big question I’m looking at is Nathan Behm. Anybody know why he isn’t projected higher? He’s someone that I would try to grab in the second round, and would also explore adding onto one of our picks to make it happen.

Yes wb a good pickup
Seen him play up here alot and WHL makes some good players

On the fence with FAs this season. It’s going to take a hefty sum to get a top FA to join the current dysfunctional group. Doing nothing is probably not going to sit well with Pasta either. However overspending badly like last off season could set them even further back. Just a tough position to be in. Seems like the best thing is to get a few one year/two year contracts on some journeyman/younger FAs and hope the disappointments this year bounce back as well as Potsy, Minty and Lysell hopefully taking next steps.

I’d offer Marner $15 mil and see if he bites.

Hopefully draft a stud in the top 10 and hope to god some of these young players/prospects take a massive leap.

Also amazing that they missed the playoffs two years in a row with those guys and haven't missed them since this group took over.

Marner 15m?? Blasphemy. Imagine making Marner the league’s highest paid player and he disappears every spring. Not to mention zero accountability. He never takes responsibility for his suckage it’s always some other reason why he didn’t score

Are we still pretending making the playoffs was the threshold for that group?

Again, Harry Sinden made the playoffs what 20 years in a row? Maybe I will get a tshirt made from that illustrious era?

I know he is a great player. I just don’t like the fact he has been a part of core that hasn’t seen past the second round after years and years of going for it. I stay away from the Leafs stars

My buddy was all fired up because he thought McKenna was in this years draft. He sent me a message "Man, what are the chances we can somehow get McKenna?"

I said "Well, not good man. He's next year"

He's now insanely pissed off.

Matty Beniers / Joey Daccord for Jeremy Swayman / Matt Poitras

yes or no?
I’d do this so quick and add on Lysell and a 2nd, but I don’t think Seattle bites. I’ve been racking my brain for potential goalie ( + poitras swaps to relieve the middle 6 center logjam). Daccord is signed cheap for a while and is also a Boston boy…what a steal that would be. Ultimately, Sweeney doesn’t have the balls, and no team is going to want Swayman without a huge overpayment or retention, and if he does do it, it’s probably for someone worse than Sway considering he took on Korpisalo to move Ullmark (lol). Seattle is interesting because maybe you can swap 1sts too depending on what’s involved. Wish it was Askarov we could swindle.

I bet Sway bounces back okay next October though. If not, Alaskan Airlines sells 1 way direct tickets…
