They’ve had trouble scoring all year. They see him pot one and they just had to have him.
It’s the classic “wasn’t Sweeney’s fault - he had no other choice” defense. He had plenty of choices. Sweeney said it himself, him and his staff (managers/scouts) salivated over this player for two years. They wanted him likely more than any other franchise.
Makes you really question their player evaluation when their were posters here who raised concerns about acquiring Elias Lindholm long before he ever signed here, but the Bruins management just loved this player and had to have him on their roster.
Smashville loading up
Ryan Reeves on waivers.
Why do I feel like the Leafs are going to take a run at Rantanen?
Sure, he had plenty of choices in a bubble. But if you're the GM of a team your choices are influenced by fans, stakeholders and most importantly your bosses. He had plenty of choices. Sweeney said it himself, him and his staff (managers/scouts) salivated over this player for two years. They wanted him likely more than any other franchise.

Saying that Rantanen isn't a play driver is the most over the top crazy thing I've seen on this board in years.Rantanen is quite individually talented but not a line driver. He is definitely not the type on whom you spend most your resources when starting a deep rebuild. He is a very talented but complimentary winger. We need Quicker d with better offensive ability, centers and a goalie other than Swayman first.
Marner is a maybe. I would prefer a better all-around center, but his playmaking would be very helpful.
Think he has one fight this year.I'd take Reaves for the sole purpose of at least giving the crowd some fights to watch during the dreadful last 6 weeks of the season
Hes calculating 14,000,000 future timelines to calculate the best path forward.Trade literally anyone. What the f*** is Don doing?
Obviously he's at fault for his decisions - but he doesn't make those decisions alone and he has pressure from other sources other than us fans. If his bosses expect this team to make the playoffs, and you have a huge hole in the top 6C, you don't have many options other than go out and find the best fill in you can. We can all agree or disagree if Lindholm is that guy, but there was zero chance we were going into the season without bringing in someone for that spot. It’s the classic “wasn’t Sweeney’s fault - he had no other choice” defense.
Doesn’t add to the top six at the deadline so Kuhlman has to be your best option? Not his fault! He had no cap space!
Trades Ullmark for an awful return before securing Swayman? Not his fault! NTC! Late first! He had no other choice!
Overpays Elias Lindholm while on obvious decline for $50M? Well you can’t blame Sweeney! He had no other option. It was the players’ faults!
Why even have a GM in the first place if he doesn’t have any options or decisions to make?
I like how you omitted the Zadorov move from the list of overpayments above.....It’s the classic “wasn’t Sweeney’s fault - he had no other choice” defense.

The fool paid him to come in and be their #1 defenseman.I like how you omitted the Zadorov move from the list of overpayments above.....![]()
You are so right, he had many choices, and if he didn't that does not mean you go out and put yourself in a box fiscally, and hands tied for 7 years, unbelievable quote. Just because you cannot get what you need or want, do you go out bury yourself, like he did.He had plenty of choices. I'm sure MMB would agree Sweeney had no option but to go out and overpay a guy like ZaddyI like how you omitted the Zadorov move from the list of overpayments above.....![]()
No word on a Marchand extension neither....Trade literally anyone. What the f*** is Don doing?
