You might be right?

"Calgary also has plenty of draft picks, including two first-rounders in both 2025 and 2026."

The above statement is simplified as the Calgary draft picks have a lot of contingencies, but it does look like they will have some combination of their own pick plus NJD or Panthers 1st rounder. Sweeney should demand Calgary's 1st round pick in the very least. A RHD like Carlo goes for a package including a 1st round pick. Otherwise pound sand. Keep him.
The Flames only keep their own pick if it’s top ten otherwise the pick belongs to Montreal. If it’s top ten, Montreal gets the Panthers pick.

If a first is involved it’ll be the NJD pick. I’m not convinced Carlo’s worth that much.
I am Bruins GM & they want Carlo then Zary has to be coming back as part of it.
They wouldn’t include Zary in a package for Petterson, they aren’t trading him for Brandon Carlo.

The draft picks is what makes it easier for them to move them even though they are a fringe team. Especially considering he has term so it's not wasting capital on a rental. I'd be starting with the better of their 26 firsts

I think Marshy wants term and they are likely hesitant to give it to him understandably

Yea, it's either that or dollars or both.Anyhow ,I stand on the side that says name on contracts or you are going.I don't trust Sweeney to do that ,but it's smart buisnesss.

I'd love for Marshy to be a lifer but we are not in a position like we were with Bergy to wait and he was never a consideration to trade because we were always in the mix. I think ultimately they make it his decision but like you say if they are far apart on term and dollars they should know they aren't gonna get there in two months either so better to get something now.

I still have no idea how the Coyle I've watched for the past several years is referred to as lazy, floater, etc.

Say what you want about his production, because the numbers don't lie and I'm not going to pretend he's having a good season -- but I don't see laziness.

I see an aging player, who doesn't have high end puck skills to start with, who -- like many at his level has some good stretches and tough stretches.

Again, if a team can properly/legitimately slot him as their 3C and a part of their PK -- that team is a legit contender.

He's not a 2C on a cup contender --- but neither are about 75% of the rest of the centers in the league.
Coyle has been a good player for years in Boston. He has size, is strong and competes hard. If the team has him as the #3 center that’s good.

I’ve seen a lot of posts indicating that Poitras should be the #3 center next season, even some speculation that he could be the #2. He’s a good young player but I can’t imagine he would bring more as the #3 than Coyle.

Finding a top #1 center is unlikely in the short term. Of the centers in the Bruins system Zacha, E. Lindholm and Coyle are the three most likely to bring success. Hard to imagine they won’t be better than this season.

Well that's fine but Sweeney better get it right if he trades him..

I

yep just finished the game and was really pulling for the Sabres. Oh well, tank is on now lol.
Time to follow draft order maybe

I really doubt Sweeney gets rid of his “assets” but if he does I don’t think the board will be happy with the returns. Remember sadly Sweeney can’t trade with himself!

Fredrick - 3rd rounder
Koepke and Brazzer( every team has one of them in the Ahl)
Marchy 1st and nhl player(think a guy on first contract who has not hit and needs “ a change of scenery”
Carlo ( 2nd and a A prospect)
Coyle ( 2nd and a B prospect)
Korpi. No one wants that contract.

Hope I am wrong
Wow- pretty low expectations. Not sure you have any of the values correct. I think you will be surprised at some of the returns. Many Bruins are having a down year. Many experienced playoff performers. Teams needing to load up for a Cul run will pay for these players.

I think most of those valuations are on the high side. We didn’t even pay that for Coyle originally, as an example.

When was the last time a team traded an A prospect for a soft second pairing dman with extremely limited offensive ability?

This team is in a lot worse shape than i think people realize. The Bruins next man up mentality served them well for years, and it was a marvel that they’ve been able to plug no name guys or depth guys into positions and have them succeed but at the same time… a lot of these guys have no value on their own.

Well that's fine but Sweeney better get it right if he trades him..

I just don’t know what there is to screw up. He’s a middle of the roster player. Limited offence. Soft for his size. Injury prone. Probably get a second for him and maybe something else I’d guess. No team is trading premium assets for him.

I’d just keep him if it were me, unless the plan is to blow up the roster and start over.

Fwiw, @DominicT is convinced the Bruins would be much better off to hold onto Coyle and Carlo, and deal them in the off-season. He believes there will be a lot more suitors in the summer (when everyone has cap space) than at the deadline.
I understand, but GMs who are in good position at TDL are hungry to win and ready to pay more no?
