Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XVII

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
At this deadline and before July 1st, I'm moving:

Beecher
Coyle
Carlo
Geekie
Frederic
Brazeau

And giving Coyle's cap space and money to Marchand for 3 years to retire a Bruin. Tell him he's 3rd line and passing the C on after year one. He'll be Lindholm's LW and have a rookie on the RW as the two of them bring up a RW with a future 2nd line RW role.
Marchand though could net you the most .I think I would trade him myself and I never thought I would say that ever.It is a way to get the C off him to because he is not really what I want at captain.Bring him back in summer to finish it out but not as captain.

I could see that, give Pastrnak the C over the summer before the draft then re-sign Brad July 1st for Coyle's money.

1. Give Coyle's money to Marchand to finish as a Bruin.
2. Use the $28.5 million in CAP space next year on TWO top six. Fill the rest in with Lysell and young talent in the system.

Here's the list for July 1st:

https://puckpedia.com/players/search?q=2024-25-ufa
Possible options with this roster and 28.5 million in cap space:

1. Trade for Pettersson (11.6)
2. Sign Marner or Rantanen (13)
3. Trade for a retained Seth Jones (6.5) *I added this in because it has nothing to do with top 6 C help so it's likely what Sweeney will do.*
4. Trade for Barzal (9.15)
5. Offer-sheet Wyatt Johnston
6. Offer-sheet Mason McTavish
7. Sign Sam Bennett (7.5)
8. Trade for Trevor Zegras (5.75)
9. Trade for Tomas Hertl (6.75)
10. Can't even find a 10th, the Center depth available via UFA, RFA or trade is that low.

Let's say you get a 1st (Carlo), two 2nds (Geekie and Frederic), a 3rd (Coyle) and two 4ths (Brazeau and Wotherspoon) for the above.

Take that and offer it for Pettersson, Barzal, etc and see what sticks. Then come back with a healthy 1st line C, healthy G, healthy top 4 D and a shiny new prospect in the system (this years' 1st).
I think you could probably expect a little more than two 2nds and a 3rd for all of Geekie, Coyle and Frederic, and that’s before retaining. I’d rather go hard for Byfield than Pettersson (pass on buying Barzal) if there is a chicken dicks chance either is available.

Also, I think the Canycks in a playoff spot would just prefer some of these players over all picks, but are unlikely to trade their star center without someone going back to replace him. His salary, recent issues team/production wise, and cost to acquire though isn’t worth it, rather settle for Zegras at half the price knowing he’d likely hit 75pts in his first year with Pasta.

LA you might have a better shot with on trading for Byfield offering Carlo, Geekie, and Coyle together with big retained money , or something centered around Marchand who would mesh well for them.

The offer sheets are intriguing for good young players.Be cheaper then other options above is a solid bet.The rest don't interest me personally.

If Poitras is your 2C don’t expect to win many games.

He's the one player in the league with a no trade list that doesn't include Winnipeg?
Grew up in Minnesota just miles over the border from Winnepeg. I guess he's accustomed to it. Anyway, go watch the interview that Gordon Howe and others have put up.

Anaheim has far more cap space than Boston this offseason and has pretty much the same exact record this year (so you can't say he'd sign in Boston "to win"). It's unlikely he'd sign an offer sheet from Boston, and if he did, it's extremely unlikely ANA wouldn't match.

They need to add a couple of very good defensemen. Had they had a couple of good defenseman last couple of games they win

They should have cut the cord with Whalstrom and had up a AHL guy ~bad news cost them Toronto game silver lining one less point puts them closer to DNQ and a good position in draft

McAvoy & Hampus play they come out with 4 points ~ slight retool all they need

Trade for ep40 using McAvoy. Works for both teams.
Horrible

Pass

Oh yea. I’m excited to watch Sweeney draft another center. He’s been great at that.
All his centers aced the player interviews, are projected to improve, skating is a weakness, and score very little goals. What could go wrong???

Marchand absolutely needs to be traded. He will garnish the most return. Give March a chance for a cup and if he loves the bruins he returns next season.

2 blown draft picks that could have made a massive difference to the bruins. Barzal and DeBrincat. Two skilled and scoring forwards.

Would love to trade the majority of our roster including Lindholm and go wild in free agency.

I just toyed with draft lottery simulator and the Bruins jumped from 11th overall to 2nd in my fourth attempt. They currently sit at 11th overall and project to take center Carter Bear

I’m all about silver linings

Two tough losses but in the big picture without a full healthy roster odds are 1-5 % they could win a Cup

They got a chance to
1. Pick top 10
2. Continue playing and teaching forward turned defensemen Mason Lohrei every situation

Like Jarren Duran who went from singles hitting infielder to power/speed outfielder, Lohrei is going from a sub 6 feet teenage forward to a 6’4 defenseman

He is going to be fantastic but there are going to be growing pains / and people can’t want to trade him every time he struggles

3. The Lysell, Merk, Farinacci could start entering the lineup this week

Need Poitras healthy ~ he needs to shed the cloud following him. He’s got a lot of Marc Savard. At 23-24 he should be very good NHL player

Ideally, the Bruins work things out and extend their captain, but a source has told RG that Sweeney isn’t quick to hang up the phone when asked about Marchand.

“Let’s just say he’s not giving an immediate ‘No!’ or ‘Next!’ when they ask what it would take to get Marchand,” an NHL executive source told RG. “He’s making it clear their first choice is to sign him, but he’s not ruling out anything, and if he did, he wouldn’t be doing his job. It’s a tough spot sure, but this is the reality of where the team and player are right now.”

You cannot run it back with that top 6 forward group.
they will though. Marchand will get 6 min. Geekie 3.5 Lohrei will get a raise. Maybe they spend on a winger? the GM has put zero effort into the team this year and has said it's on the players they should be better. He thinks Coyle and Zacha are last season's version

Every team has injuries, look no further than the Blue Jackets this year, shitty excuse imo. Silver linings though I really like, and along with possibly having a top 10 pick, there's also the possibility of recouping more picks and prospects by being sellers and opening up more cap space for the off season.

Add on to that the Growth of Mason Lohrei do to those injuries to Lindholm and McAvoy. Lohrei is receiving invaluable ice time, he led all Bruins defenseman last night in ice time. He will have his ups and downs for sure but the ups are starting to out weigh the downs by a large margain. The kids a gem and he's showing it. The pp been clipping at over 22 percent with him at the helm. He's showing he can be an impact player at this level and gives the Bruins another force behind the blue line moving forward.
