Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XVI

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
I want Philly, Anaheim, or less likely, Seattles first. Start with our 1st, Coyle, and add from there. Pitt and STL need theirs too much/ aren’t enough upgrade from where we fall to for the cost.

Also, if we sell Geekie because he wants too much money or term, I’m curious what TBL could offer to unite the brothers…

Here we go. Exactly 14 days to March 7. Should be interesting.
I feel like this will be the least exciting trade deadline ever. Well for the bruins any ways. Probably just dump a bunch of expiring contracts that don’t move the needle for picks that don’t move the needle.

Man, I hope not. Every year I try not to get too hyped for the deadline and every year I fail. If our deadline is as flat as you think, it will be such a letdown.

What do you hope they do?
I want to see an aggressive retool, with an eye to contend in the next 1-4 years. A combination of hockey trades and selling off expiring contracts. I'd like to see a bunch of mistake prone rookies on the team down the stretch so we can see what we have and slide down the standings into the top6 of the draft in order to get Caleb Desnoyers.

I would like to see Carlo and Coyle moved in hockey trades, preferably for a high potential forward and more of a two-way D. I'm hoping that's the headline.

I'd move Freddy for a 2nd or better. I like the player but I don't want to pay him $4-5m. I'd move Brazeau too. He's not really in my matrix for next year. I re-sign Geekie. He could be a cheap middle 6 option who's young and plays a gritty game.

I would be willing to deal Marchand but only if he promises to come back on July 1st. I want him to finish his career here and I think we need him be part of the solution over the next couple years.

My depth chart (not lines) going forward is...

#1LW - #1C - Pastrnak
Marchand - Zacha - #2RW
Geekie - Lindholm - Poitras
#4LW - Kastelic - #4RW

Lindholm - McAvoy
Zadorov - #2RD
Lohrei - Peeke

Again, that's a depth chart, not necessarily lines or pairs. In other words, I think Zacha is a #2C in the NHL. I think Lindholm is a 3C. I think Poitras right now is a 3rd liner. I think Zadorov is our 2nd or 3rd biggest TOI guy, etc.

Options to fill those holes...

#1C - Draft is our only hope. Misa or Hagens if they win the lottery, Desnoyers, McQueen or Frondell if they're in the top8, O'Brien or Bear if they're top 12.

#1LW - Rantanen, Ehlers or even Marner. Go big in free agency on one of these guys.

#2RW - Lysell? Maybe someone they pick up in the Carlo trade?

#2RD - If they can't get someone in a Coyle trade, then I'd look at Pionk and Fabbro in free agency.

#4LW / #4RW - Tanner Jeannot and Mathieu Olivier. Crash line on steroids.

I like it but I move Marchand whether he agrees to come back next season or not. Obviously I just don’t move him to move him, but if there’s a team out there who moves the needle way in the Bruins advantage, I move him.

Should be able to get a 1st + easy for him .Only problem though is Sweeney has a rep as taking less and over paying which matters .Other GMs will try to wait him out no doubt.

Not sure I view Marchand as a solution in next couple years.

For what Marchand brings to the table, his value imo is worth much more.it’s not every deadline that a player of his caliber and all the intangibles he brings becomes available.

We're already short top6 wingers. If you move him, you have to replace him.

Where are you going to find a better fit at a cheaper number?
How do u know what price that is? And the term which has been reported as being the hold up.

We will find out in next 17 days .The 9th right?
The 7th I believe. IMHO I don’t see Sweeney moving him unless someone blows him away with an offer.
