First I don’t see the Bruins moving Brad unless he wants out and he has stated he want to remain a Bruin for life. Secondly any FA who not going sign should be moved and not just allowed to leave for Free. Sellers anyone should be on the market except Pasta. Coyle for the right offer and it be nice to move our backup goalie.

That pick is looking like another bust by Sweenious & company.I was hoping to see more of him by now that's for sure

I mean that’s the big swing skill guy folks have been pining for them to take in the late first. Best skater in the draft and good puck skills with some makeup and size question marks.

Is he a 200 foot player whose ceiling is 3rd line C/RW?
Gotta be adequate on faceoffs and be able to move up to the 2nd line on occasion. If not, he isn't versatile enough!:sarcasm:

He's getting a little close to waiver/bust category but I'd like to see them take a chance on Lukas Reichel. He has a really interesting combination of skill and speed that he just hasn't seem to unlock at the NHL level. For one, I don't think playing 4th line center on one of the worst teams in the league is a good development spot for him but what do I know.

He can absolutely fly. He's in the 96th percentile on NHL edge for speed bursts over 20 mph. They need someone (outside of their 4th line who play more of a dump and chase type of game anyway) to push defenders back. They need scoring off the rush. You would think Lysell would fit this mold but they refuse to give him a chance.

Most of the top nine forwards are somewhere between 50-65 percentile and many others below that (Geekie, Brazeau, Wahlstrom) It's ok to have maybe one forward like Geekie who seems to find a way to get in the right spot and has a quick release to get his shots through but we need to get some speed in this lineup ASAP

The late first is a total crap shoot. I’m fine when they take a lower ceiling higher floor guy. You need cheap guys for the third line. I’m fine when they take a swing, knowing that usually it ain’t gonna work out. The Bruins have been totally solid drafters from the 2015 second round on under Sweeney given where they have been finishing and how many picks they have left after trades. And all the trades of the picks have been solid. Sure Nash got the concussion, but I’d make the Lindholm, Bertuzzi, and Orlov trades 10 out of 10 times. My only reservation on the Nash trade is I wish they went a step further and went after McD.

What makes you think you are smart enough to pull it off...........oh well you would be dealing with Chris Dury, you might have a chance........good luck
I’m obviously joking- Drury has imo not been very good overall as a GM but he was a fantastic big time player with Colorado

The only UFAs are Marchand, Frederic, Koepke and Brazeau.

Koepke is returning bupkis. Brazeau I don't think has much use to a contender because he's not going to be getting top 6 minutes or PP time, but it's possibly someone wants some depth scoring, so maybe a 3rd.

If you are taking arguably their best trade chip, Marchand, off the table then that leaves Frederic. Probably a late 1st and "meh" prospect. But I'd definitely deal him.

As you rightly point out the likely return on the Bs UFA contingent isn't over-whelming

if someone offers a third for Brazeau the Bs need to pounce, would also swallow hard and take a fourth ....Koepke has minor value - maybe a fifth ...Frederick bringing a low round first and 'meh' prospect sounds right

Which leads to other routes
-a Marchand trade ( assuming he is on board which I don't' think is likely) could net a first and other assets

-biting the bullet and looking at offers for both Coyle and Carlo-both of whom would bring decent if not spectacular returns. To me the key with these two trades is not just the return but at least equally important the significant cap money it would free up for next year

I had a nice break from the inconsistent play from sacco bunch. Back on the positive bandwagon again. Let's effin go! Get that wildcard spot ! Its not too much too ask. I wanna see playoffs .
You know Don I am wrong quite a bit, but must tell you I just don't see this team in the playoffs and with the uncertainty of McAvoy and Hampus, really makes me look like I will be right. Now let me say to you Don, I am against a full blown rebuild they take too long, and I love playoff hockey, and want my team in it. So Don, I will tell today, that I am rooting for me to be wrong and you to be right and we will all be happier for , good luck my friend.

Would hate to lose out on a chance to get a third-round pick.

Honestly, I'd talk to other teams about Marchand. If the return is so much better than anything else, they'd be foolish to not consider it... even if he says he doesn't want to go. I keep seeing people say he's "earned the right to decide". The only "rights" a player has are outlined in the CBA. He negotiated a deal that in this year includes a limited no trade clause. If the return nets a piece with the potential to be a core player, then that is more important than some good feelings.

I never criticize players for using whatever leverage they have to get what is in their best interests, but teams should as well. If 2 years from now Brad is retired and the Bruins are looking at 3 straight years out of the playoffs, while an offered prospect goes somewhere else and shines... will it have been worth it?

I love it.

You know what, Don? Don't ever let anyone give you shit about taking a positive view on things. Particularly things that are outside your control.

You have something in your life that needs fixing but just ignore it by taking the positive view that all will always be ok in the end??? Your friends are right to give you grief. Sometimes we have to face facts and take action.

Supporting a hockey team over which we have no control and our individual opinions mean nothing on outcomes??? You do you man. And do not let anyone ever tell you different.

I mean that sincerely. Anyone who shits on Don for being positive immediately goes on my shit list.

You are correct on this " he earned the right" bullshit. I think if you can move him and better this team, then do it, if you don't get better keep him. Better players in all sports have been moved or signed with other teams.

Sounds like you'd trade in an old dog you've had since a puppy for a 25 dollar gift card and a car wash.
Depends. Is it my personal pet and it's chief function is companionship, or is it a guard dog that is now blind and deaf in one eye, someone is offering me a puppy from good stock that will do the job for me for the next 12 years?

If some fans and Sweeney just want to cuddle up on the couch and talk about the old days for another 14 months, I guess that is one choice.

You grossly underestimate the intimidation factor of having a guard dog that wears an eye patch.

Marchand is owed a generous deal considering he played on the most underpaid contract the last time around.

A trade is likely the best way to avoid an ugly contract stare down. We can always reunite in the summer.

He's looking for term AND money. Do you give him both at his age?
