Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XV

Personally I only under value Sweeney because he is an arrogant, know it all who can't draft, evaluate pro talent, make good trades, overpays 3rd liners like Coyle, rarely has shown the guts to do something significant, thought Bergeron and Krejci could play until they were 80 and has this team on the verge of making the Oates/Tocchet team look like the Big Bad Bruins of the early 70's. Besides that he is great.

HE sucks
His style only works when he has a winning roster. Helps to overlook his drafting flaws as well as the comfort in wasting years of Krejci with only one top 6 winger.

Otherwise that arrogance where he is the smartest in any room. The media and fans are mere peasants in his presence.

Who was the sure fire can't miss player that was available when we picked?
Iirc it was between him and Greentree on here with most suggesting that Greentree is a shoe in eventual middle 6 player while Dean was the future top 10 center or complete bust and I think it came down to they need centers and they had been talking to Dean for a while and liked what they heard. No issue with the pick personally, I think Dean will be a phenomenal NHL'er once he figures it all out.

Letourneau would have been a great pick if you have a deep prospect pool and don't have to worry about a little gamble. In the state the Bruins pool is it wasn't the right pick but there is still time and next season will say more about the kind of prospect he is. Right now the with the season he is having the hand is a little bit on the bust side

So they should have gone with a nice safe low ceiling high floor player like Beecher or Frederick?

Honestly now is the time they need to gamble most in my book. DL may or may not work out, but I was thrilled to see them swing for the fences.

I wanted Cole Beaudoin but he went one pick earlier to Utah.

Thing is, I trust Bob Wetick more than any other Bruins scout so I trust him here.

I suggested targeting Calgary's pick to try and snag a young center prospect and someone asked who would waive to go to Calgary. I just listed the B's players with either NTC or NMC.
Calgary is a beautiful city with mountains in the background.I can speak about it to because I stayed in Quincy and now I live in Calgary 😉Maybe Sweenious should not hand everyone no movement clauses and there would be no say in it.Just saying.

I hear what you're saying, and don't disagree with the main idea, but for me the deadline isn't the only indicator. For example, he could hold onto Carlo at the deadline and then move him at the draft or after the free agent frenzy dies down and someone is left without a RD when the music stops. @DominicT has said that he thinks we'd get a better return for several of these players in the offseason when everyone has cap space and there are 31 teams looking to improve. He might do something at the deadline that doesn't look like much but when paired with a July 1st signing looks very good.

So, I also want to see what next year's team is going to look like, 'see the plan' as you said, but I'm willing to give him the off-season to show all his cards.
I wouldn’t reduce this to just Brandon Carlo though. Because you’re right - it could pan out that way.

But you’ve got Brazeau, Frederic, Geekie, Marchand all up for contracts. He keeps all of them, time to move on. I’ve been very vocal about my love for Marchand and my desire for him to finish his career as a Boston Bruin. Would kill me to see him in another uniform. But it would be FAR worse if they didn’t deal him at the deadline - and then fail to come to an agreement on an extension.

If he shows some indication of what he needs to do and the direction he needs to take the Bruins going into next season, I’m fine with affording him the opportunity. He’s earned that much. But that STARTS at this deadline and if he doesn’t do anything there, I’d dump him and bring someone in with some vision for the future.

dean - can't skate and hang at college level

cole hutson - 18 picks later, game winning goal and beanpot MVP
Dean taken 25 2 points playing for BC
Teddy Stiga taken 55, 23 pts playing for BC

When people say Dean isn't putting up points because he's playing on a stacked team, remember that a fellow freshman is killing it playing on that same stacked team.

But, as I've said, they didn't draft Letourneau for who he is as an 18 year old.

Yep, fair points.

I'm not worried about Marchand (lifer) or Geekei (arbitration eligible), but decisions need to be made on Frederic and Brazeau.

I hear what you're saying about needing to see some direction and starting it at the deadline.

Coyle-ish. Didn't Coyle play in a "weaker" developmental league coming up at some point too?
He played in the EJHL, which at the time was a "decent" US Jr league.
In his draft year, Zemgus Girgensons (also a 1st rd pick) and Chris Wagner played in the same league.

That's 2 1st rounders and a 5th rder drafted out of that league.

Letourneau was the only player drafted out of the U18AAA league this year. I've only checked the last 3 drafts, but Letourneau was the only player taken from that league over that span. Not the only 1st rd pick... the only pick.

Also, Coyle in his D+1 year had 26 pts in 37 games as a freshman at BU.

Top 10 Center? As in top 10 in the NHL??? What lists or evaluators had him listed like that?

Development.

Stiga played 2 years with the NTDP with better coaching, skills coaches nutritionists, trainers and more.

Letourneau played Canadian high school hockey that couldn't possibly afford the type of coaching Stiga had.

Stiga was so much further in Development.

That doesn't guarantee Letourneau will get there at all. But he deserves a chance.

So then tell us, what would a fair trade package to go from where we sit at at 13th OA, to 4th OA look like?

Rule of thumb is that if it seems like too much, then it’s probably just right. Because I fail to see how Coyle, Lysell, and a 2nd is actually a nightmare to go and grab Misa and have him slot in next season, instead of a likely whiff at 13th OA. Even if Misa is gone there, McQueen isn’t. If anything Seattle would want more.

Well when the Bruins had 13, 14 and 15 they weren’t able to move up.

Marchand is a lifer and will always be Bruin but I’m not 100 percent sure he’s a Bruin come March 8

It says to me Jr hockey is far below BC college hockey. Id rather Dean developing at the highest level possible rather padding useless stats in Jr.

Worry next season if we see no growth. My son knows the game as well as anyone and watched him exclusively at the BP. and came away with a high opinion of his potential.

He's a very unique player
Agreed, that's what Dom pretty much said too.

It's called Bruins.

Looking at next year top 6

Geekie - Zacha- Pastrnak
Marchand - Lindholm- ?

Coyle I would not mind playing RW on third line with Poitras

Like to see Sweens work his magic and get another Geekie/Zacha gem for 2nd line RW

Give Lysell a shot ?

It would be nice if they gave him a shot the rest of the season to see if he can be a top 6 solution.
