Rumors are his looking at Casey Mittlestadt too.

I'm convinced that Don Sweeney's dream forward group is Pasta, Marchand, and 10 guys who can play center and wing.
lol i build ea sports hockey clubs in a similar fashion. Maybe this GM thing isn’t out of scope for job opportunities.

In all seriousness though. If (big if) it was a Coyle + whatever for CM it might not be the worst deal ever. Get a younger guy up the middle of the ice who, while not a burner, has decent hands and is willing to play along the walls where they have been getting slaughtered all season long.

I'd almost have the cap flexibility of Coyle off the books after next year, worst case. I find it peculiar that Colorado may already want to move out Mittlestadt less than a year after signing him to his 3-year deal. Sounds like some buyers remorse over there.

Here are some moves I would like to see happen.

Coyle/Carlo for Nelson and Mayfield ( assume we sign Nelson to a deal)

Freddy to EDM for Matthew Savoie

Zacha/Potsy/Lysell and a 4th rounder for Jordan Kyrou

The money washes out for these moves.
Kyrou becomes the number 1 center we need and is only 26 YO and under contract for 3 more years.
Sign Nelson to a 2-3 year deal, he becomes your #2 center, move Lindholm to RW.
Savoie should make the team next year, no issues and move into the third Center spot.
We still need a scoring winger on the second line next year.
Our offense is instantly much better/ more skill / more speed.

Ya I haven’t watched CM much outside of the playoffs last year where he looked good to me anyways.

Sounds like he’s in the doghouse there

Got to think Sweeney is just waiting until the break because he is focused on Canada. Canada wins it all his stock shoots up as a GM. Puts pressure on management that they can’t just fire a guy that put together a team that won a tournament, and if they did fire him he’d have a lot of options just based off that.

I don’t know what the future holds but Sweeney definitely has been MIA for most the season. Only time we really heard from him it’s about Canada. Touched very little on the team. Hasn’t been talking to any local media or any press conferences. Just silence.

I see this a lot on the boards and I got to ask those that feel his attention is focused on Canada what you think his duties are?

He doesn't have to worry about signing players. There's no trades. There's no salary cap to fuss over or prospects to check up on.

I would say all his work for Team Canada is probably done and that's selecting the players and maybe giving his input for lines. What's he got left to do, call/text some of the players to check in?

I'd be down for a Mittelstadt trade. Seems like he's in the doghouse in Colorado due to playstyle based on what Avs fans have said.

Other than the fact that he MIGHT be available. I struggle to see how adding Casey Mittelstadt improves this team in the slightest....
Sounds like the Colorado brass isn't happy with the fit & he could be a pretty good buy low candidate. As much as I want the Bruins to sell Frederic, Brazeau & Marchand I can't see Sweeney throwing in the towel just yet. He's gonna be stubborn.

We all know we will not get 95 pts...RETOOL DON!

- Marchy 50% retained vs Avs Middlestatdt + Calum Ritchie ( Marchy back in july for cheap 1yr x 2.5mil + 2.5mil bonus)
- Freddy 50% retained vs Blues Bolduc
- Geekie 50% retained vs Gunler + 2025 3rd pick
- Brazeau vs Vgs Holtz
- Koepke vs Tb 2025 4rd pick
- Wotherspoon vs Minn 2025 5thrd pick
- Korpi vs something somewere maybe a 5th rd pick at best or higher pick at half retained
- Beecher 1yr × 1mil
- Lohrei 2yr x 2mil
- Callahan 2yr x 0.850mil

Solid plan Don! Easy to do Don! That give you around 13-14mil next year to sign a cheap D and two solide forwards but dont do shit this time please!! Just copy paste and call me for more details! Thkx! 😆😆

P.S. Still no no.1 center Don so maybe do a big trade for once you need this!

i've seen necas play in person a lot. the kid can really fly, he'd look amazing in a spoked b.
Agree and this to Colorado sucks

He and Pastrnak are as thick as thieves

Playing with McKinnon
, Makar & Colorado is way to dangerous for me

Here is Necas interviewed after trade

Question to Necas
During the warm-up (in the game against Boston that was right the next day, following the trade) did you greet Pasta (Pastrñák) and Zachi (Zacha)?

Necas

“Oh yeah. I was on the phone with Pasta before I even knew about the trade from the GM. He called me on Facetime and asked me if I was already flying to Boston or what, so I told him that everyone around me was ringing me up, but I still didn't know about it from my team, so I wasn't sure whether it was even official. I saw Pasta after the game.”

I think his numbers in Buffalo benefitted greatly from the lack of accountability defensively under Granato.

That 2022-23 Sabres team scored just 8 less goals that season than the regular season record Bruins, and still didn't make the playoffs.
He’s soft he suck’s away from the puck

The 80 % here who want Sweeney fired should hope it happens

retention is a great tool to use and sweeney should certainly consider that depending on what's on
the table. but you can only do it 3 times per season.
Good call. Retention will get us more capital. Retain on Coyle and I think we would do well

Id much rather see no retention, I like it when other teams retain much more. Caps going up, hopefully the Bruins don't retain, I want no retention going into this off season. Salary Cap is an asset in a retool as well.

Edit : Unless its on lindholm.lol
Cap is a asset, and that’s why you retain to get more assets.

What's the context?

Zadorov-McAvoy are second on the team in defensive zone starts yet still put up a +1 and 50% xG.

Lohrei-McAvoy get 75% Ozone starts (and play with the Pastnrak line).
Oesterle-McAvoy got the fewest Dzone starts of any pair on the team with significant ice time.

So of course players are going to see their numbers go down when they go from 75% Ozone starts with Pasta to playing with Coyle against top lines and starting half your shifts in the defensive zone.

The three pairs with the most Dzone starts on this team are Zadorov-Peeke, Zadorov-McAvoy and Zadorov-Carlo.

Zadorov-Carlo has not been good, but I don't think Carlo's issues this season are because he played with Zadorov. Lohrei-Carlo is worse than Zadorov-Carlo. They're -6 with 33% xG. Against the Rangers two weeks ago Carlo assisted on JT Miller's first goal. That wasn't Zadorov's fault. Against the Rangers the other night, Carlo passed it right to Zibanejad for their first goal. That wasn't Zadorov's fault. Zadorov played 21 minutes against the Rangers and was +1. Carlo played 17:40 and was -1.

You are acting like McAvoy and Zadorov get buried. They have 68 o-zone starts and 53 d-zone starts. The rest are on the fly or at center ice. Sure Lorhei//McAvoy has is 63 and 24, but 161 are either neutral or over the course of play. Osterle/McAvoy is at 25 to 18 with 95. I hear you, but this ain't comparing 2013 Bergeron and Toews or something.
