Everyone loves to talk about how things fell right for the Bruins in 2019. Well, the same can be said for the 2010 Flyers. Got the Devils in Round 1 who they owned that season (won 5 of 6 in the regular season, defeated them in 5 games). A banged up Bruins team in Round 2, a Cinderella Habs team in Round 3. Avoided the Caps and the Penguins. Then got smoked really by Chicago in the finals.

That LA Kings team was a juggernaut defensively, 2nd in GAA. They added Jeff Carter in his prime at the deadline who changed their whole outlook up front, slots in as their 2nd best forward behind Kopitar. They are no 8th seed if they have Carter all season.

That is basically what this Bruins team needs, an elite forward in his prime to slot behind Pasta. Very doubtful they find that at the deadline.
I agree they would need to add another top goal scorer, another solid middle 6 forward and maybe an upgrade elsewhere, to not only get in the playoffs, but also do some damage to other teams once they are they. If they cannot acquire these type of players, then this year's team is better off selling. Problem is it could be Sweeney or higher up that won't settle for selling.

You know that Donnie is saving his job by telling Charlie, on a daily basis, that the injuries can't be overcome this year.
Unfortunately, it will work and they'll give him a pass. He'll reach in the draft and pick some lead foot idiot at spot 16 this year. Re-sign an aging Marchand. Re-sign Mystery Man Frederick. RFAs Lohrei and Geekie will get raises.
And We'll be right back here next year.

You know, I don't know that.

And I think I can safely assume you don't either.

retention is a great tool to use and sweeney should certainly consider that depending on what's on
the table. but you can only do it 3 times per season.
Id much rather see no retention, I like it when other teams retain much more. Caps going up, hopefully the Bruins don't retain, I want no retention going into this off season. Salary Cap is an asset in a retool as well.

Edit : Unless its on lindholm.lol

Looping back to the "Zadorov's plus minus is lying to you because of the 12 ENG goals"...

Everyone has been up McAvoy's ass this year. Here are McAvoy's partners with at least 100 minutes AT 5 on 5 ONLY.

McAvoy with Zadorov is a +1 with a 47% Corsi and a 50% expected goals for percentage.

McAvoy with Lorhei is a +6 with a 55% Corsi and a 52% expected goals for.

McAvoy with Osterle(!) is a +2 with a 56% Corsi and a 57% expected goals for.

Ok, let's look at Carlo whom everyone (including me, perhaps wrongly!) says has regressed. Again minimum of 100 minutes and 5 on 5 only.

Carlo with Zadorov is a -2 with a 41% Corsi and a 37% expected goals for.

Carlo with Wotherspoon is a +1 with a 52% Corsi and a 48% expected goals for.

Carlo with Lindhom (remember that?) a +4 with a 54% Corsi and a 60% expected goals for.

The only RD who doesn't see his numbers absolutely plummet when Zadorov is on the ice is Andrew Peeke.

Zadorov has sucked and its making the fan base wrongly blame McAvoy and Carlo. Now, I'm not willing to discount that come playoffs his physicality will be a boon. And he was stellar for the Canucks in the playoffs so maybe he just needs the extra mental focus that comes with the playoffs.

But in the regular season he has sucked and I don't understand how folks see otherwise.

There's talk Brayden Schenn is available, Stay away Donny !

Rumors are his looking at Casey Mittlestadt too.

I'm convinced that Don Sweeney's dream forward group is Pasta, Marchand, and 10 guys who can play center and wing.

Update Alert

I think Necas stays in Colorado

He’s in love
I think Marchy would look really good on McKinnons Left

Necas & McKinnon has to be the fastest skilled line in history

They are sick

They will offer him the Rantanen deal - let’s see if he takes it

I would to play with McKinnon & live in Colorado

i've seen necas play in person a lot. the kid can really fly, he'd look amazing in a spoked b.

Correction: the Bruins never traded Orr or Chara, they left via free agency. And Bourque was only traded because he requested it.

The "fact" that Orr was traded may be the biggest Bruins myth of all time, up there with "Marchand didn't get a penalty for punching Sedin in the face 5 times".

I don't understand how Bonvie still has a job. He's pro scouting director no doubt he had input into every single player they acquired last off-season.

The most penalized player in pro hockey history runs Boston's pro scouting. Think about that.

Got to think Sweeney is just waiting until the break because he is focused on Canada. Canada wins it all his stock shoots up as a GM. Puts pressure on management that they can’t just fire a guy that put together a team that won a tournament, and if they did fire him he’d have a lot of options just based off that.

I don’t know what the future holds but Sweeney definitely has been MIA for most the season. Only time we really heard from him it’s about Canada. Touched very little on the team. Hasn’t been talking to any local media or any press conferences. Just silence.

Yep, from the outside looking in, it appears that he's much more invested in team Canada than the Bruins. Hopefully he mingles with some GMs and gets something hammered out during the tournament.

I think you are putting way too much importance on being GM for a 4-game tourney.

It's not really that difficult to put together a team for Canada.

Of note, the Zadorov/Peeke pairing was totally caved in during the time McAvoy was out and they were being asked to play 1st pair. -3, 43% Corsi, 42% expected goals for in those couple weeks. If you remove that time where they were being asked to play against much better talent than they should have been, their numbers as a pairing start crossing over to positive territory. So that's good. But you have to question if spending 8 million on that pairing for them to be "OK against the bottom of the lineup" is the right use of cap space. Hopefully, with the cap going up its a lump you can take.
