Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XIX

Yes true Hampus needs to prove he is healthy, if he gets a clean bill of health, he will be easy to move, as team would love a solid #2 type D, the other Lindholm if we can move him without salary retention, I do that as well. I agree , not a fan of Mitchell, would have kept Osterle even over him. I hope they keep Jokiharju and add Chychrun. They also need a couple solid forward additions.
To be honest if Hampus is fully recovered, why move him. but Chychrun would be a nice add.

You’re right on the 5 year, I often forget that.

But all I said was these are the best options out there for the RFA route, and my opinions on them. You also can still trade for their rights if their teams don’t want to pay, and that route or offer sheet, you can do it after the draft and not use your potential 2025 top10 pick. But if we end up with the 10th or 11th OA after the lottery, which is unfortunately still feasible at the moment, I’m going to see what I can do with it, because Carter Bear hopefully seeing NHL ice in 3-4 years doesn’t exactly excite me. If we slot up by standing position or trading up, that’s a different story, as McQueen, Desnoyers, and Frondell look plenty more attractive.

If a team is weighing options on those centers, then yes, it’s worth Sweeney exploring a trade. I wouldn’t do McTavish as I’ve mentioned based on the cost, but I would probe on Vilardi if available, and I would put Zachas name up there in a package 10/10 times for his rights before the offer sheet route if it came to that. Unfortunately, McTavish is more likely available if at all than Vilardi. It’s easy to say a team has cap space and will pay that no problem, but Swayman is too easy of a recent example of how negotiations can get weird and the limits can be tested. Mctavish is also behind Leo and Zegras in the pecking order, and Strome is still playing center often, so there are current reasons for them to explore as well.
Zegras is a wing now, 104 faceoffs in 42 games this year, 85 in 31 games last year.

If you add Chychrun, you could move Lindholm to fee up cap space and maybe also fill holes in other spots.
Like they could have done had they not signed a third line center for 7,8 mil, and a backup goalie, or the very least a rotation system goalie for 8.2 mil. You never have enough D, and this is another year that proves that, if healthy Hampus is a solid D-man, and any d you replace him with will not be as good or might cost you more. I am not disputing your theory, just not sure that is the way to go

Unless the Bruins plan on the top 6 LW'ers next year being Kopeke and Merkulov, money has to be spent there to upgrade the position or a trade has to happen to get one. Right now Leterri, Kopeke, Lauko, and Khusy are the middle 6 wingers. Even if Donato reverts back to a 15 goal 30 point guy, he's still better than all of them.
I’d rather pay Taylor Hall short money on a 1-2 year deal than spend on Donato. There are plenty of options better than Donato

The sun doesn’t deserve such horrible treatment. Send him into space.

I think it would better serve the lineup if he was on the 2nd line as it's main shooter on his natural side and let Pasta play with someone via free agency who's more skilled for that line.

Even if Geekie stays on the top line, Bruins still need two top 6 wingers. It seems they like Mittelstadt at center as opposed to wing, kind of like Zacha. Hopefully he can improve his faceoff numbers like Zacha did.
That’s the key to the off-season. The Bruins need to add two top six wingmen. Trades are likely the best option to get it done.

I mean, why not both? I think you're selling Donato a little short. I'd prefer a bigger get than either one but I'm not in love with the UFA options out there and we need two top 6 players if we are to believe Mittelstadt is in the mix there and Lindholm is better at being the new Coyle on the third line.

Lauko is not good.
He isn’t that bad but has no business being anything other than a fourth line and injury replaced third liner if needed. I do like his willingness to engage in games and be a bit of a rat. It’s one of the reason the rest of the team is hitting more. He along with Kast and Zads drag the team into the fight.

Yep, he is a good 4th line energy guy. He won't probably ever be more than that, but he has speed, willingness, and tenacity. I am glad he's back and hope he carves out a regular role for the next few seasons on the 4th line.

Bruins should consider some offersheets to some RFAs, but I doubt that the teams will equalize the offers easily and with the exception of the Rangers players, who will have big challenges this summer...

6.8mil - 1st + 3rd pick
Knies
Petterka

4.5mil - 2rd pick
Kakko
Bourque
Edstrom
Cully

Don better get Geekie signed before there’s an arb hearing. Does 5x5 get it done now? 6 weeks ago I thought 4.5m was it. If not, maybe use him at the draft with a 2nd to trade higher? Getting one of the Flyers 1sts to nab Jack Nesbitt or Blake Fiddler could be interesting. RFA for RFA swap with someone?

Good God I would hope it doesn't take 5x5. Unfortunately, it may be necessary.

5 more years left at 6.5 million per. If you can get out of that contract without enduring any pain (i.e. coughing up high draft picks, buy-outs, retention) the Bruins should be all over it. Fully recovered or not.

Totally agree with you.
The only hope we have is that is comes back and plays like he did in his 17 game season for us this year, then off load him.
He is 31YO.
