On the forward group, I think the number one thing is to figure out which of the UFAs you are willing to give an irresponsible contract to, because with how much cash will be going around, it will be an irresponsible contract.

I’d rather overpay someone at the top of the market than a second liner like Ehlers or Boeser.

But that’s just Marner. You willing to give Marner the biggest contract in the game? Because that’s what it would take.

The perimeter nature of both Ehlers and Marners game scares me come spring time but isn’t a complete blocker since they are play drivers you could compliment with guys that get inside more. Wouldn’t touch Boeser with a ten foot pole. Don’t need more guys that can do good stuff if someone else does all the work.

But I do think Ehlers contract will start with an 8 or a 9 and that’s scary.

With Marner they've have two of the top players in the world i'd feel they would be contenders. They may not be with McDavid and Draisaitl, but I feel the supporting cast just might be better and they went to the finals a year ago.

They did early in the season and it was meh at best. Am I nuts thinking I remember this?

Pastrnak and Lindholm have played 216:25 together at 5vs5 this season. The team has a -2 goal differential during their time together.

Pastrnak without Lindholm -- Bruins are +10.

Lindholm without Pastrnak -- Bruins are +1.

As far as your suggested line, Geekie - Lindholm - Pastrnak have played fewer than 17 mins together at 5vs5. But, the team is a -2 in that abbreviated time and hasn't scored a goal.

Bennett is already a top2 line player though. You're not offering him something he doesn't already have. And outbidding everyone to get Bennett is scarier to me than outbidding everyone to get Marner (who's 26 and a top5 point producer who doesn't take a lot of wear and tear).

Bennett's style is tough on a body. He's the same age as Elias Lindholm. He currently benefits from playing with a world class player in Tkachuk, and it's not like he's a 60 point player with Tkachuk. He's Mr. Clutch, he's a nightmare to play against... but he's not a big point producer. I'd love the player, but I do think there's risk there.

We shouldn't have Moore worries with anyone signed this summer. Moore polluted the cap of an actual good team

Sabers fans were actually pretty high on Jokiharju a couple years back. Of course, that was the season everyone on that roster went berserk. I'd think he'd improve just by getting away from that Buffalo gong show.

As far as Marner goes, I don't like the idea of having all the high end talent being right wings, but Marner is the one guy this summer you can pretty much guarantee will be worth his contract. He always produces, isn't chronically injured and despite popular opinion, he did have a very good series against the Bruins a couple/few years ago, and not like Nylander, who would make hay down 4-0.

Yes. They tried Zacha-Lindholm-Pasta for 21 painful games at the start of the season. It was awful.

Mabye swapping the LW from Zacha to Geekie would make a difference but I don't think so. I think Elias, at his best, plays a lot like Geekie. In the playoffs last year his whole game was forecheck, win pucks, play around the net, get open and rip shots...

That's why so many people thought Lindholm would work here as the 1c. He literally played just like Geekie, but with Selke-lite defense and dominant faceoff ability. On paper it made sense. It just hasn't tranlated and Lindholm's hands just haven't been there.

I’m not sure how fast Ehlers is, but assuming he’s got good speed he’s the guy I think fits best. Then I’d probably run my lines in pairs

Ehlers -Lindholm
Mittlestadt-Geekie
Minten-Kastelic

Plug in whoever fits best style wise and shorten the bench for power plays, penalty kills, and end of the game. With any luck we’ll add a real talent from the draft and get a healthy defensive unit next year too.

All these people that are saying they traded alot of good leaders. So leading an underperforming team is good? This org needs a big reset, including the FO. It's never going to happen though. Charlie doesn't have the huevos to do it.

Play the scrubs the rest of the year, hope for a good draft spot. Can the FO before the draft. Start anew.

He's one of the fastest players in the league. 94th percentile fast.

Ehlers would be a great tandem with Pasta and Zacha is your details guy and making sure the puck gets on his wingers sticks.

Geekie would hopefully be our in-house solution to making the 2nd line respectable as a scoring threat with his shot. I'd prefer Lindholm here but Mittelstadt I feel is the better puck distributor to feed Geekie and Bennett would be there doing the dirty work.

Lindholm and Kastelic would be the sure fire starters in the bottom 6. There's a glut of youth who can compete for the remaining spots.

*room for some young kids to get time to make their mark
