Good one
:sarcasm:

The players and who was responsible for bringing this cast of characters together together ?

Pavel Zacha signed Elias Lindholm to the worst deal in hockey.

A big time player swap that ended minus players like Marchand, Coyle, Carlo and included bringing players back like Boeser and Miller, that's a proper Tampa Bay Retool (think minus Stamkos and adding Guentzel).

Picking up Boeser before UFA and signing him would be the best move sweeny could make, 28, in his prime scoring 30-40 a year and gives you two proper shooters in your top six on both lines.

How were they doing before the injuries?

Pretty much exactly the same, no? They had one of the worst goal differentials in the conference then, too.
The Bruins record without McAvoy in the line up is surprisingly better than good, and its not just over a small sample size.

The Bruins are 99-53-19 without Charlie McAvoy

October:
4-6-1 -13 GD -3.4 SD/G

November:
7-5-2 -6GD. 1.2 SD/G

December
9-4-1. 3 GD. 4.1 SD/G

January:
5-6-2. -8 GD. -8 SD/G

Lindholm out since 11/12
McAvoy out since 1/11

So just going by that, when both were healthy the team was lousy. In the window when Lindholm was out only, they were a little better. With both out, back to initial level of lousy.

They’re not good. Overall.

Not saying it's THE reason, but it is A reason. Lindholm's been gone since early November.

IMO the disjointed preseason might be an underrated factor in their inability to find themselves - it set the stage for a whole lot of instability.

Also think Marchand deserves a little more of the blame than he's received so far as the team captain. I know he's coming off of surgery this year but holy hell last night when they needed to come out sharp in the third their captain can't get out of the penalty box or tie his pants up!?!

Hampus Lindholm was one of the only Bruins that was doing credit to himself from the start of the season and it didn't really help the situation. They get Mac and Lindholm back and they still look to be a few days late and a few dollars short. As Dom said on the podcast, (paraphrase here) the issue is not primarily one of talent, but of player mix and roles.

Thankfully it's all on them and not the GM. Amazing GM's ever get fired with the players always being at fault.

I think you blaming Brad Marchand more than Don Sweeney is sort of bonkers.

I think it's primarily an issue of talent, as in they don't have nearly enough. Even if they are completely healthy there are no forward lines you can put together that look good because they don't have enough talent. Meanwhile, the defense just isn't good enough. Not even close.

Goaltending should be fine but it's not.

Well, I think the players are responsible for coming into camp out of shape and not ready to play. They're responsible for mailing it in too often, like last night. From one season to the next, huge dropoffs for Marchand, Coyle, Carlo, Frederic, McAvoy aren't the GM's fault.

And I'm someone who absolutely did not want Lindholm or Zadorov to be signed. Unlike about 80% of this board.
So you absolutely didn’t want Lindholm and Zadorov, but you absolve Sweeney from criticism for making that mistake and signing them?
