Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XIII

My son says that kid will be a stud
Mikhail Gulyayev:
Gulyayev is a puck-moving defender who has elite-level skating, with mobility and agility to die for. He's got well-developed attention to detail, but we would like to see his puck-handling skills improve to see a little more playmaking ability. He's already good at anticipating and finding teammates.

No, they paid him 3.5 coming from NJ. Midway through his first year here they handed him 4.75 per year, not even one full strong season here under his belt as a Bruin.

And you can't ignore Geekie's first season here either where he was a half-a-PPG player playing center on the 3rd line. That will factor into an arbitration case.

He's the right age, I'm not looking to sign him to a 7-8 year deal here. But taking him to arbitration if there is a deal to be made here is the wrong move IMO.

Let's be honest about 4-5 million in today's league with supposedly rising cap. It's not what you think it is.

They may play hardball with him and take him to arbitration. For a team desperate for guys who can shoot and score, I think that is a mistake. If they can show faith in Zacha mid-way through year 1, why not Geekie after year 2?
You said, "Gave during". Gah, poor reading comprehension on my part. I thought you meant his first deal signed here.

In a vacuum, I agree with everything you are saying. But, if I can't ignore his first season, you cannot ignore his first two months this season. When he wasn't invisible, he was terrible. And I'm saying this as a fan of his based on last season's work. I haven't taken the time to figure his shooting percentage since Thanksgiving, but it's going to be way, way up there, and no matter the rationalizations, he simply isn't going to get a hot streak like this every season. Unless they can nail down what he is going to consistently provide going forward, every additional season tacked onto the first one in his new deal is an additional risk.

Whatever he gets he should give 30% to Pastrnak, or at least thank him for it
I like Geek he's a keeper in my book, he does a little bit of everything, takes the body and will go to the dirty areas, but yea I believe Pasta has assisted on 10 of his goals and more likely all though not directly responsible for the others but more than likely in-directly responsible for half of his other goals

Lindholm, Lysell, 1st for JT Miller? You gotta figure one of the suitors for Miller ( Carolina ) is now out of the Miller sweepstakes with their pickup of Rantanen and Hall. I'm still not liking trading a 1st away for a 32 year old malcontent with the Bruins hurting for younger talent. How long can we expect Miller to be a difference maker...two seasons tops before he hits the cliff? I would feel better about the move if it put the Bruins in top contender status but it doesn't IMO.

Why give up so much?

Their were reports out there that carolina had offers on the table for Pettersson right up-to last night trade. If Im Sweeney, I target him heavily, Miller an after thought but would be a nice consolation prize.

Agreed. For me, it's no coincidence that Frederic's best games this year have come from him playing center. He needs to be engaged to bring the best out of him, and he's too slow on the forecheck to play on the wing. I like him, but if his future on the Bruins isn't at center, the Bruins should either trade him to the highest bidder or package him for a better forward.
Freddy used to play a hard nosed, give no f***s style of hockey. He hit. He fought.

Now? He does it very rarely.

Better get movin on that Geekie extension, price is going up! 6 years @ 3.5mill sounds good to me. Probably going to be 4+ now though.

The latest offer was Lindgren + Chytil + 1st for Miller. The Rangers and Hurricanes both had permission to speak to Miller, but Carolina decided to make a move on Rantanen instead. If the Canucks are only negotiating with one team, that price for Miller won't be any higher. The price may be too low for the Canucks to move on from Miller which could explain why after the 3-way trade deal that happened, Pettersson's name also came up in deals.

Pettersson's NMC doesn't kick in until next season, so the Cancuks would be get a haul for Pettersson whereas the Canucks would basically be giving Miller away for peanuts.

That’s a haul for Miller, I’d take that and move on if I was Vancouver.

I think Miller will get dealt soon, I think we have a good shot at him too!

I think Carlo + 1st in 2025 + Frederic is a fair deal! Miller needs to go and he can control so they won't get a kings ransom. I'm also assuming that Frederic agrees to an extension.

That's a filthy top 9

I doubt frederic will move the needle especially for a guy can put 80 plus points a year. Fred sucks this year.
