Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XII

I get everyone going back and forth on the Miller situation but I think he is worth the gamble if the price is right.

I remember JFresh putting out a top 100 NHL forward list at the end of 2024. Obviously Pasta and Marchand were high up on it but believe it or not Elias snuck in at 100. I think he would be well outside of that now.

According to the list, if u take any NHL contenders top 4 forwards they are significantly better than the Bruins and it's not even close.

Florida - Barkov, Tkachuk, Verhaeghe, Bennet
Oilers - McDavid, Drai, Hyman, Nuge
Devils - Hughes, Bratt, Hischier, Meier,
Lightning - Kuch, Point, Guentzel, Hagel
Leafs - Mathews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares
Avs - Mackinnon, Rantanen, Nichuskin, Lehkonen
Jets - Connor, Ehlers, Scheifele, Vilardi
Dallas - Hintz, Robertson, Duchene, Johnston
Hurricanes - Aho, Necas, Svechnikov, Jarvis
Vegas - Eichel, Stone, Hertl, Karlsson

I could see someone making the argument against VGK but remember they had Marchesault during their cup run. That was a great team.

In any regard, that is 10 really good contending teams with a better forward group than us. The Bruins have 2 top 100 forwards while most have 4...

It's obviously a team game and the Bruins have a really good defensive unit and goaltending but they desperately need a high end forward.

J.T Miller would make a significant impact to the forward group and would put them on par with these types of teams. It's him or find the next guy to crack this list (think a Zegras type)

Yeah the second he gets traded here you will see the patented HF Bruins board fish flopping in all it's beauty.

You hit the nail on the head, that is the way it goes in this town and others, he plays well here and he becomes a hometown hero. I really don't care anymore about this so-called culture, most times problems can work themselves out. My only concern is the cost to get him, and his contract, the talent and need is welcomed.

I think the Bruins could make an attractive pitch.

Question to me is: Do the Bruins make that pitch? Do they want to pay what it would take to get him here? Do they want him at all?

HA HA I f he has issues with a 100 pt forward, what kind of issues would he have with a 40 point forward with poor defense, a cocky attitude. Might be interesting to watch though,

Great post and on top of that teams Like Montreal, Columbus,Ottawa have young talent forwards on the upward trajectory and there's other teams who are deeper than the bruins as well. simply put there's no excuse to only have two top 6 forwards and one of them being 37 years old and on the down-side of his career.

I believe that you offer Carlo, Coyle, and either Potsy or Lysell for Miller. Offer Freddie 3.75 for 2-3 years. If they bite and the boys on D get healthy then you run this to the deadline.

“Just an in-game decision that I made,” Bruins interim coach Joe Sacco said after Sunday’s practice at Warrior Arena.

Marchand went full speed during practice and is expected to resume a prominent role against the Sharks on Monday at TD Garden.
“Marchy and I are on the same page,” Sacco said. “I know, knowing Marchy and the way he prepares and the way he works, he’ll be ready to go [Monday]. He’s a true pro and so he’ll be ready to go. He’s dialed in all the way, 100 percent. It was just an in-game decision that we made.

Debrusk all though streaking can put the puck in the net. He's one of those players I think people notice more when he's gone. Unfortunately when and where he was drafted and the circumstances surrounding him, I believe put unreachable expectations on him.

Either way that doesn't fix the Bruins scoring woes this year and neither will all the line juggling go on, they just don't have the forwards who can find the back of the net on a consistent basis, its more of a collective group of 3rd and 4th liners excluding Pasta and Marchy.

I wouldn't deal Zadorov for DeBrusk today.

Neither would Vancouver’s GM or any other hockey person who may occupy that position. Debrusk’s contract has surplus value while Zadorov’s has severe negative value. Vancouver wouldn’t even do it if you retained 50% of Zadorov’s contract in the deal.

If Marchand had done his job properly there would have been no need for a spark. There wouldn't have been any overtime.

The point about beggars can't be choosers is one that I think is often overlooked. We say this guy isn't a great fit or I'd prefer that guy to this guy, but at the end of the day, 90% of who ends up here is determined by who we can get. Pettersson might be a better player but we can't meet the asking price, maybe Miller won't waive for Boston, Cozens might be a better fit age wise but Buffalo won't trade with us...

We all want pettersson. But this isn’t EA sports. If Vancouver moves him they are morons.

The Rangers have their problems, obviously, but I’d be more confident about their ability to turn things around than Boston’s. Putting aside the nitty gritty around the pros and cons of each roster, the basic trajectory of NY had been a team very much on the up which has now hit a stumble, and is trying to find a quick way out of it to get back on track. Verses the Bruins who have had a long period near the top but are now on the slide and trying to avoid the total fall into a period of irrelevancy that almost all top teams face eventually. Just like the Pens. The odds are stacked against them pretty heavily at this point. It may well be they manage a rapid revival, just as the Rangers may well not recover. But on balance I see NY as a more viable option.

End of the day it only matters what Miller himself thinks. And what the Bruins are prepared to offer, as you said. I don’t think he’s the kind of guy who just wants to play out his career in some nice, cruisy place. Far too competitive for that. But does he want to go to a genuine top team that is very much in ‘win now’ mode like the Avs or Devils? Or is he willing to take a chance on a team that’s currently not quite there but has potential? The rumored NY trade of course suggests the latter is at least an option, to a point. But how much risk is he willing to take on, and who with?

I don’t think Miller to Boston is impossible. But it strikes me as being a really long shot. A number of other teams can simply offer him more, and equally importantly other teams have more to offer the Canucks.

I do not think miller has the as much value as ppl think. His long contract is the biggest issue. Also now the media has painted him as a cancer. Not to mention he had a no trade clause or something.

I’m also not convinced he would come to Boston.
