Yeah, I watched a lot of Rantanen this year. He played center earlier in his career too. Man, if he gets to free agency, there's your #1C UFA center.

I watched the Rangers/Avs game the other night, which prompted my Zibanejad question. He did a lot of good things in that game. Kreider was ok, not a big impact at even strength but made some plays on the PP.

I also watched the Canucks/Jets game. Jets had their way but both Miller and Pettersson play with pace, they both back check hard and go to the dirty areas, Miller obviously is more physical, but man, that team looked out of sync against the Jets. Ehlers also looked really good. He split the D on one rush. He's creative and fast.

Lastly, I watched a lot of Cozens recently. I really like this kid. He's big, he works hard, he plays both ways, he's got an extra gear, he bears down on face-offs... I think he could be a better center for Marchand than Pasta. He'll carry the puck blue line to blue line, but in the Ozone he's more of a shooter, he looks to get open between the dots, as opposed to being the guy setting up a shooter. Won't know til you try him with both guys, but I got the impression he'd be fantastic with Marchand.
I think everyone here agrees that whatever the Bruins do now until the trade deadline that any move needs to consider the future of the team. The biggest mistake the Bruins can make is trading for a rental for a 1st+ package. A lot of the teams in the East are still in the hunt for a playoff spot so we'll see how that affects trade value this season.

We'll know more come the trade deadline, but there are some very interesting forwards becoming free agents in the offseason. Rantanen and Ehlers being two. I would add Marner and Boeser (rumor is he may be moved if he's not re-signed by the trade deadline) to that list as well. Will they make it to free agency is the question, but unless the Bruins plan on adding players that they see can be a part of the new core, they shouldn't make any moves that cap-straps this team going into the offseason.

Word out of Vancouver is that between Miller and Pettersson, Miller is the most likely of the two to be moved. There isn't any doubt that he's a gamer, but I think his age and off-ice attitude could be an issue. Maybe the off-ice stuff is exaggerated, but where there's smoke, there's fire. The good news is that Lindholm and Zadorov have played with him, so the Bruins would know if there could be any potential issues with adding Miller to the locker room.

Zibanejad to me is interesting. He's having a down year, but I would much rather the Bruins trade for him over Kreider. He's having a down year at 31, but since 2018/2019, he has historically been close to or at a PPG per season. Age could be an issue, but if the Rangers are planning to move him in a Trouba-esque kind of deal, I think it should be considered.

I like Cozens, I just don't know if the Bruins have what it would take to obtain him. I think Mittlestadt could be an option for the right price of course.

What if they add a pick? I think the money works.

Carlo is way overrated imo
Carlo is having a tough year, no doubt, but you want to give up 27 year old's for a 32 year old that makes almost as much as Carlo and Zacha. I am not saying Miller would not help this team, but not at that cost, and there is talk he is hurt, and that contract is an anchor, and we already have one, unless you swap them straight up.

Really liking the look of pp1
PP2 should be interesting though.

I guess Lettieri has somehow “earned” PP time. The dude is a AAAA JAG. I keep hearing how Lysell has to earn his call up and his PP time. He’s up for one game, helps generate a goal on his first shift and gets immediately turfed. Lettieri though, oh watch out!

I don't think your to far off on what it would take to get him. Miller a line driver something this team badly needs and would be a huge up grade to Zacha or any center going back the other way, but I just don't see these two teams as good trading partners only because there's other teams out there who can afford to offer more and the Bruins should look to get younger not older.

I still want Dawson Mercer.
Him or Mason McTavish.

Didn't necessarily say I wouldn't do it, just said that the fact the are both UFA at the same time does mitigate some of the value of getting a player 6 years younger.

But Freddy straight up doesn't work financially for Boston, well unless you think Lindholm is not returning this year, or you plan to trade Coyle or others somewhere else.

Is Freddy as a UFA more valuable than Coyle with one year left? If you are a team trying to win this year, who is the better player (I think the answer is Coyle, but maybe I'm wrong). That said, I am absolutely 100% sure that Freddy is not worth a 2nd round pick and a prospect more than Coyle is. At best Freddy is likely only worth a second , which means you think Coyle has either zero or negative value
Sorry I actually meant to quote someone else on that one

Would you take a chance on Zibanejad?

You mention reclamation projects and someone earlier mentioned Washington's retool and taking a chance on Dubois.

Is there an amount retained that makes Zibanejad worth the risk?
I don’t think adding Dubois is the same thing as Zibanejad.

Dubois is a lot younger. His contract ends when he should be existing his prime.

Zibanejads contract ends when he is going to be retiring.
