Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XI

FWIW- Those suggesting moving on from Brad as a "last kick at the can for him"- Im not entirely sure he is done after this season.

Reason?

EF's report at the start of this season saying the Bs and Brad were looking at a 3-year extension (Brad later squashed this).

Brad himself is on record in saying he wont feel 100 percent normal till next season (indicating another season at least).
I don’t think anyone was saying that. Rather deal him and re-coup some assets. Give him another shot at a Cup.
Brad has said he wants to keep on playing and there’s no reason why he should comptemplate retirement at least by what he does on the ice.

Im not trying to put words in mouths. Just clearing the air a bit for those that may be thinking hes done after this year. I dont think he is.

I think thats some much needed info/context when you contemplate moving on from him as your captain and what hes done for this club.

I will defer to what Lou said in that I would approach him out of respect for him, see what he wants and move accordingly.

I am not sure if you know this, but professional players are PR trained. This in no way discredits rumors. Not saying the rumors are true, but of course Marchand and Pasta are going to say this while they are still on the same team with a future in the NHL in mind.

Kobe and Shaq said things were fine, MOC said Thornton was a long term piece of the Bruins a month or so before the trade.

Canadiens said everything was fine with Patrick Roy.
They hate each other :sarcasm:

For me, the Bruins are having trouble for whatever reason executing plays on the ice this season. We don't know the reason for it, but they look nothing like the team they were last season. Adding to the fact that they added a "top 6C" and top 4D, they should be playing at least on par or better than what they have been showing.

We can debate Montgomery's results, but although his firing led to giving the Bruins a bump with Sacco becoming the head coach, his firing wasn't a direct correlation to the Bruins' performance this season as they are still struggling.

That leads to a few theories. Are multiple guys on the team playing through injuries, and the reason why the team is playing subpar may not necessarily be because of the injuries but because they know they may not have a chance this season due to the injuries needing attention in the offseason?

Are the Bruins a mentally fragile team? With the losses piling up, have they lost their confidence in themselves? Did their 1st game against Florida break them when they got walloped by the Panthers after making those two big additions in the offseason?

The third could be that there is a rift in the lockeroom. We can point to McAvoy early in the season saying how Brad's leadership is a bit old-fashioned with holding each other accountable. We can go back to February 2023 where this was published in the Globe:

None of us thought anything of it. Maybe because the losses are piling up, Pastrnak and McAvoy are annoyed of Marchand's "leadership," but I will say this, it hasn't been a problem before. Maybe because everyone is expected to get along with one another on the team that this is causing potential rifts in the room, but it's also noted that the 2011-2013 teams had different cliques in the lockeroom. They ended up just fine.

I think there would be more credence to the theory of Lindholm or Zadorov causing a rift in the room which would explain why the Bruins are playing so poorly compared to previous seasons.

It's wild for Keefe to say what he said without any backing to it because saying something untrue would absolute bomb his reputation, but he could also just be doing it for ratings so who knows. It's not like what he said wasn't said in 2023 already. Half-truths do sell though.

Well maybe this Keefe drama will put a fire under this teams ass and they'll start playing better

People are taking these quotes, which came after Bergeron retired, way out of context. Brad wearing the C was an adjustment for everyone, even Marchy. Mac and Pasta being elevated to alternates was and still is an adjustment. These comments came after asking the guys how different Marchy is compared to Bergy. Contex matters.

There is nothing there to indicate any rifts and believe me, we would have absolutely heard about them from someone who reports on the team on a regular basis.

Your points are 100% valid especially around the injuries.

Zaddy and Lindholm are still adjusting and their transition hasn't been smooth with the Swayman holdout, both guys nursing some injuries at the start and two coaches. They get a pass and by all accounts, they are very well respected and liked by the team.

Careful! I took a lot of heat a couple of years back when I posted here that if C Mac and Pasta were the next leadership core, then this team would be in trouble.

A LOT of heat!

That's not to say I dislike them, by any stretch, but they don't scream leader to me.

Neither does Marchand, by the way, but he's what they've got. I think he's a rotten rat bastard, but he's OUR rotten rat bastard, and I'm glad he is.

I will say, that if there's trouble in the locker room, good! There'd better be! and if the Captain is calling out the star scorer.......good! He should be! He should also be calling out himself, IMO.

I'm also firmly in the camp of replacing Sweeney & Neely, although I doubt both go at the same time.

But, wuddo I know?
Right there with you. When Chara left everyone was still clamoring for a FA forward signing for the second line. I wanted Petriangelo because I felt leadership on the backend was still important and Mac while a great player does seem to be a more go with the flow guy and still needed a vet back there with him.

Pasta has always been a happy go lucky guy too. While you don’t want a bunch of pricks on the team you still need some hard noses. If it’s just one guy the others will just isolate him. You do need a few out spoken guys. I thought that was Zads but he is more reserved than I thought and Lindholm much like his play on the ice is a ghost.

I truly believe leadership is a core problem. This team should not be this bad. On paper they are better than last year. Something just isn’t right

All this nonsense will end by the medicine called winning. Start winning. Start tomorrow and score 1st enough playing from behind.

Maybe there is a rift in the locker room. Or maybe this is just a poorly built team managed by a guy more worried about a sham two week tournament.
If Donny is more worried about some 4 nations crap tournament that doesnt even have Russia he should be canned yesterday.

I think Keefe is full of shit.
I’m with you Wally. If you’d asked me this morning to name 20 “insiders” that I’d listen to with interest, Keefe would not be one of them thats for sure.

So, I beg you B’s fans, before Pasta Marchand and god knows who else is ripped a new one, ask yourself if Keefe was on your top 20 list this morning.

That said………Could he be right? Sure. Could he be making a mountain out of nothing? Absolutely.

Regardless — tell me, given how this season has gone, is there ONE of you who would not be surprised to hear there isn’t at least some tension in the room??? f***ing better well be some tension I say. Could be a great thing if there is. Because if the answer to “why do we suck so so bad this year?” Is really “gee, I dont know”??????? Well we are well and truly f***ed.

Just like end of game last night. A little anger means there is a pulse at least.

Agreed.

I'm going to watch but look at this sentence and tell me what's wrong:

'Okay guys. We're going to have the best on best face off against each other for two weeks. Sound good? Okay great. Oh, Kucherov, Kaprizov, Draisaitl, Pastrnak, Vasilevskiy, Bobrovsky, Sorokin, Shesterkin, Necas and Marchenko don't worry about this. We don't need you in a best on best.'

Stop it. Just stop, please.

Love Marchy…ie Keefe…. “ total lie, shouldnt have a job after this, he can go pound sand”.

Keefe thinking he miiiiiigggght of picked the wrong storyline right about now. Marchy just told everyone he’s nothing more than a total hack. Bad day for the dude, turns out.

Agreed.

This isn’t an NHL thing though. This is virtually all of the international sports community excluding Russia from their championships. Should they not play because Russia is excluded?

Marchand and Pasta playing 3d chess...

Tell Keefe there's a rift, let him predictably blab it, say no there isn't and give a struggling team a common outside enemy to focus on
