Boston Bruins 24-25 Roster/Cap thread XI

Boston Gets:
  • C J.T. Miller
  • 2026 third-round pick
Vancouver gets:
  • C Charlie Coyle
  • D Brandon Carlo
  • 2025 conditional first-round pick
  • 2026 third-round pick
This mock trade fulfills the requirements laid out by Vancouver while allowing the Bruins to keep crucial parts of their roster, such as center Pavel Zacha and top blueliner Charlie McAvoy.

Just say no to JT Miller. 3 albatross contract on the books now (Elias, Hampus, and Zadorov) and you want to add a fourth?

32 in March, walked out on his team a couple months ago basically. Will never come close to repeating his production from last year. Hard on his teammates while having zero credibility as he's won zilch at the NHL level.

Bruins are trading assets like Carlo and 1st rounders they better be getting back players under the age of 30. A JT Miller deal is pure panic by Sweeney and he should be fired before making a deal for Miller.

I will tell you in three years. Their last few drafts where very good based on were they draft. Now that they are sucking up the joint the picks will become more off the list as appose to being forced to reach
I hope it's better in three years time as well. And I agree that recent drafts have been ok considering where and what round we picked.

However, there is no denying that a big miss in 2015, success (late picks), and trading away firsts and seconds have left us with a very empty cupboard NOW.

2015 was 2015 - no need to revisit.
Success in season leads to lower picks - no gripes there.
I was all in on the Hathaway, Bertuzzi, Orlov go for it all trades. Can't win if you don't ante up.

But now is the time to pay the piper for both the fans and management. Just above I see trades suggesting we give up a 1st!!!!!!! NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO.

For the love of god, we need three years of 1st and 2nd round picks - several if possible. If not, you'll not need to tell me anything in three years.

Stand pat till after the lighting game Jan14th.
Before Ottawa game call up Poitras and Lysell . Send down Wahlstrom and McLaughin. If Wahlstrom is lost to waivers so be it.
Evaluate at the break for the four nation cup

This team needs to play like they did for the middle 10 minutes or so in last nights third period -- ALL THE TIME. Uptempo, aggressive, puck hounding with a touch of physicality. Without it we f***ed.

But do that and you spend time in the opponents zone and relieve pressure on a defensive system (notice I didn't limit it to poor Mason Lohrei) that clearly needs settling.

However, that kind of effort and intensity has been largely missing this year -- I don't know why. As I said in GDT last night, I expected that kind of hard working team when the season started.

Maybe the problem is that there is not one player on the team who, in his right mind, is afraid of losing his job. Cupboards are barer than any time in recent history.

Honest question old timers -- can you remember a time when our prospect pool was so diminished? Off hand I cannot, but will think about it. Either way, it's dark.
I think you are right somewhat, but I honestly believe that this past week the effort and intensity, has been better but not consistent enough. Last night for the first time I felt some urgency in their play. If they continue with that type of play, then ball is in Sweeneys court, he must get a goal scorer maybe two would help this team, the cap makes that so difficult. I was so high on this defense going to this year, but I just don't know what happened to them, hopefully getting Hamus back the can get back on track.

You may be right and I'm the one misremembering.

Well, I'm the guy that just misread the media post about the stadium series and came off looking like the ass so . . .

To be honest DON, not sure the coach should be even discussed until after the season, this team needs some fixing before you can go there, one coach has already been fired. I think it is management that should be under the microscope now.

Agree, next chop is the FO, Cam and Don. Sacco may not be the answer (I don't think he is) but it's the roster. If they squeak into the playoffs somehow, I think they're safe, though, and they get to pick the new permanent coach.

This is highway robbery for VCR, hard pass.
I would trade Coyle straight up for him and throw in a 3rd rounder if VCR retains 25% of his salary.

I just looked over every draft pick he made and nothing there jumps off the page.Potsy was a 54th overall pick and Lysell 21st ..Pelosi is interesting but not much else.Maybe Nassan picked 214th can be better then draft slot.

LATEST FROM TSN’S INSIDERS

TSN: Darren Dreger reports Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney is open for business. They have some free-agent players (like Trent Frederic and Justin Brazeau) who could be in play.

Dreger said they plan to map out a strategy that takes them up to the March 7 trade deadline, unless they receive an offer that makes sense to them beforehand.
Really it's one of a couple paths.
  • Sell the periphery pieces for what you can get.
  • Add around the edges.
  • Buy big.

What they do obviously depends on how they assess the team, right? This is what we don't know. It could be Sweeneely think that this is a solid core that is just having a bad season and some peripheral tweaks is all that is needed. Maybe they think the whole thing needs a major overhaul, but my feeling is that they don't- not least because that is an indict of themselves. Maybe they are even thinking a major TDL deal to upgrade will set things to rights. :dunno: I believe, with no other reason than past history as a guide, the first one and will not be shocked to see them tweak the edges and think that will do it.

TF should get us a 2nd rounder and JB a third.
Personally I would keep JB out of the two and try to get him to sign an extension.
He could be a fixture on the third line for years to come.

Braz has the body to be a third liner, but would like to see him use it a little better. He should be immovable in front of the net.

Rick Keefe coming out today saying the locker room is fractured and we're gonna throw J.T. Miller into the mix? That'd be like Chernobyl all over again.

I just had to look up what Rich Keefe said. Wow.

Although I have a hard time believing Pasta flat out told the team to not put him on a line with Marchand. Could there be a rift there between the two players though? Absolutely. Where there is smoke there is fire.
