I’m not a Coyle guy persay but I do not see why people hate him. He isn’t over paid. He is paid exactly how he should be paid. He is aging though. I’m glad they have poitras in the pipeline.

If they move coyle this team is far worse.
I certainly expect more than 13 points in 40 games from a guy making over 5 mill. It’s not even a 30 point pace, that’s 4th line numbers

He will probably hit 40 though. He did have a slow start.

Classic case of a guy put into a role that doesn’t best suit him, and people hating on him because he’s not producing at the level that is expected for that role.

If you judge a fish by his ability to climb a tree, who is the one who is the failure?

He’s 29 and would be fourth on this team in points.

He’s way more productive than Frederic and plays a much greasier game.

I’d do that trade 200x out of 100.
He will be 30in a few weeks and carrying a 5.5 mil contract for 4 mor years after this year, total pass.

Looks like a lot to me. I see a few guys that are worth 1-2 mil that can be resigned. Probably end up with 10 mil to spend on a free agent.
Not to mention that the cap could be $97 million. They are keeping the cap artificially low with only a 5% increase.

As it stands right now, players will get all their escrow back this year and as Friedman has reported, the two sides will negotiate a cap higher than the 5% increase allowed under the CBA.

What role do you see him put into that he can't climb with his fins?

Because he’s needed to be used more than a typical 3C, because they don’t have a true 1C.

Lindholm is a 2C. They need a 1 to legitimize the lineup.

Coyle
I don't get how Coyle needs a #1 center to be a good #3 center. You see teams loading up against Boston's 3rd line when he's centering it or are his minutes up compared to previous years and you see him fatigued?

His 3rd line production this year is worse than TFred which is pretty damning considering the slump that guy is in.

Going by history.

If they had a 1C playing 18-20 minutes and a 2C playing 16-18, he’d only be playing around 14-16 or so.

I’m not basing my opinion of him on a poor first half of the season on a team that hasn’t met expectations.

He’s scored over 40 points 5x and 37 twice, not sure what role he played during each of those seasons, but that’s very good for a 3C.

He’s not alone in being a guy who benefits from playing with better players, but historically he’s been a very good player.

Fair enough. Wish some of that "not basing my opinion of him on a poor first half of the season on a team that hasn’t met expectations" were spread around more.. .
