But how many elite level players in their prime become available during the season? How many teams that believe themselves to be a contender give themselves this sort of space to potentially make an in-season splash before the trade deadline?

Not every good team spends all their cap space by the end of every off-season. Plenty go into the season with cap space and don't spend for the sake of spending.

We're just used to the Bruins maxing it out every summer whether they have nothing to spend to start with or they spend it on secondary pieces.

When I think back to times when we had Middleton, Bourque, Park, Ratelle, Cashman, Cheevers, McNab and O’Reilly on the ice at the same time, it really saddens me to witness the complete failure Sweeney has been as a GM.
Hes done pretty good sway McAvoy carlo lohrei getting zacha and Coyle from suberb trades. I think the lindholm and zadorov signings were brilliant and are meshing now the linus trade was masterstroke brilliant. Overall I'm happy with Donny.

In response to this post, all I can say is that I also miss the days when there was no such thing as trolling.

I wonder if the bruins would take a risk on Zegras if they gave him away for super cheap. His value is at an all time low I would say.

Out a few more weeks after knee surgery. He did have a dead cat bounce before the injury (6 pts in 4 games before going back to zeros)

What does cheap mean? Straight up for Charlie Coyle? Or do you think they will retain 50%, and then maybe somehow you can make a deal work using Frederic, but you'd need to add a decent amount of value to that to make the retention worth it

I agree with Anthony here. Time to send up the kids.

Call me ignorant but I’d rather lose some games 5-4 than 2-1. All while seeing some young offensive talent in this rather bland lineup..

I get letting Poitras mature in Providence . However his skill set is desperately needed on the Bruins
