And yet they were a 109-point team last season with the same core of top players.

There has to be a better explanation than they are simply a bad team that lacks talent.

Once again, I'm not sure what Swayman's attitude (good or bad) has to do with the fact this team flat out sucks offensively. They can't even get into middle of the offensive zone for a half-decent look. They have what, 1 goal scored off the rush this year 5 on 5?

Do you realize how hard it is to score less than 2 goals a game over the course of a month of NHL hockey? Even the 15 win 1999-2000 Atlanta Thrashers in the middle of the dead puck era averaged more goals per game than the Bruins have the past month. Their PP is dead last in the NHL.

I think you're wrong. Swayman has been bad. He's 65th in the NHL in goals saved above expected. That stat takes out the gross back door goals that are the D's fault and just looks at shots where 99% of the goalies in the league consistently make that save. He's 65th. That means he's not only been the worst starter in the league but every team also has a backup (including Boston) that's been better. Korpisalo is 28th on that list behind the same defense.

Swayman should be given us starts like Saros when we played against Nashville. That was a stand on your head, top5 goalie, thou shall not pass type performance. Instead the highlight of the year is him hugging Ullmark before a game and watching Ullmark make the save of the game in OT off a 1timer while he lets in a wrist shot low blocker from the circle.

Everyone has played a role in this debacle. The managers, the coaches, the forwards, the defense and the goaltending.

I don't agree. I don't care about goal saved above expected. That stat means nothing to me (no disrespect I'm not a big believer in those types of analytics, I've made that well known here many times).

He's got lit up by some really good fast teams that picked the overall team defense apart. That Dallas game last week the only one I could fault him for was the one-handed tip and even that he was making an adjustment to the puck changing direction off Zadorov's skate right to the goal scorer. The Carolina game was arguably the worst defensive effort in 10 years here.

He hasn't been great. I'll even say he hasn't lived up to his contract. He hasn't stolen any games.

I have a hard time blaming the goalies when the only games where you had more than 3 put past you were against very strong fast offensive teams. And your under tremendous pressure with an historically bad offense is in front of you.

Talk to me when they are getting lit up by the offensive bottom-feeders like Philly or St. Louis. Then I'll admit the goalies are the issue here.

Sweeney and Neely are better than Lucky Lucciano when it comes to being Teflon. These guys are amazing. Sign a 5 million dollar third pair defenseman instead of getting some scoring punch, Swayman's fault.
What does scoring goals have anything to do with making saves, Sawyman is less than garbage so far. Its on him why he sucks right now.

Swayman is an arogant blowhard and deserves every ounce of the S*** he's getting.

Its not enough in my opinion

I have watched Sway get beat cleanly on a lot of stoppable, unscreened shots this year. At 8.25 mil you have to expect a lot better than that. Yes the team has let him down, but he shouldn't need perfect defense every game to keep us in it at that price tag, and if he does we made a mistake giving him that contract. I'm sure no TC and preseason is the biggest culprit but I can't really believe that anyone could be happy with his play so far.

Allowing 3 GA or more in 9 games out of 13 isn't good enough

He does suck.

As does the defense,. And the forwards. Whole team. They have a right to be disappointed in Swayman,. The team is not not good because he held out. It's not good because there isn't a load of talent and the talented guys suck right now. All of them.

Yeah God forbid a 9.5 million dollar "franchise" (snicker) defensemen should elevate his partners game. It's shouldn't matter if it's Lohrei, Zadorov or Lindholm. He should be able to adjust his game, considering he is "elite".
Imagine how bad we would look back there if he wasnt "elite" think about that why you s*** on McAvoy.
Who is your franchise defensman? Carlo?

Depends on your definition of stoppable.

Goalies get beat often now with unscreened shots. No one seems to give the goalies any credit to how much better players can shoot now today vs. even 4-5 years ago. The puck comes off now extremely quickly with lots of velocity from even simple wrist shots, the shooter now has a much bigger advantage. Some clean unscreened shots are almost unstoppable. We Bruins fans don't notice it as much where they rarely try to score this way for whatever reason.

I agree 100% a 1000 times over. Somethings is not working.

He ranks 11th in 5v5 save percentage and was 3rd before the Dallas debacle.

Problem for him is his PK save percentage has been terrible. But the PK itself has also been awful.

Defense has been awful in front of both goalies. Hell, Korpisalo had a .900 sv% for the game and due to defensive lapses could have been significantly worse.

He had 3 shots hit posts and the a goal called back for interference. Fortunately we got away with points in that game, but it could have been much worse as St Louis was beating Korpisalo just ringing posts because our defense is terrible.

Why have a goalie at all? Isnt their jobs to stop shots not just easy ones? The excuses are epic for these goalies.

Last year it was the goalies bailing out the D, what changed? I will tell you,the wrong goalie was retained.

Well I just expect a goalie paid like a top 5 goalie to be able to get the best out of a shooter 1 on 1 more often then not unless the guy is a top shooter in the league, otherwise what's the point in having a top guy?

As much as people say Korpi gets the best matchups too, Sway has beat MTL, LAK, SEA, TOR, and STL....two of those teams are currently in a spot, with losses to UTA, NSH & OTT below them.

Not good enough as a team all around i agree, but certainly not good enough for a guy who is paid what he is.

I disagree. Lohrei while great offensively is abysmal defensively. Peeke is often injured and a turnover machine out there. Zadorov is a career 3rd pairing who has been playing up and committing a ton of penalties screwing over the goalies.

On top of that Debrusk and heinen were much better defensively from the forward position than anyone we brought in.

Ullmark isn’t doing any better than what Swayman/Korpisalo are doing with this current team.

For as bad as they have played, they've still managed to be a .500 team. If this is their low point and we know the star players can be better ( Swayman, Pasta, McAvoy ) the reverse of that is a team that should be playing over .500 and fighting with the Panthers for the top spot in the east.

I think it's fair to say he hasn't lived up to his salary. That doesn't mean he's the problem here. I agree there is room for improvement.

He lost to Utah 2-1 in OT. Allowed 4 in game where the team was shut-out (Nashville but face over 40 shots and 6 power plays against.) Allowed 3 in another OT loss where his team couldn't get a shot on net for 24 minutes.

This is a league where we have multiple teams right now averaging over 4 goals a game. More and more guys are using longer sticks with lower flexes. This is a shooters league now. It's only Boston management that are ignoring that fact.

Their only saving grace is the division is horrible. Again

Basically you have 7 teams over .600 and then a huge gap between them and 5 team pack between .450-.500.

If even one of those 5 can get their % up to around .550, it's curtains for Boston.

.500 team is a stretch. They’ve lost 11 out of 19 games. It’s just that over time losses get their own special category.

Still a plus player on a terrible team, plays more than anyone else.

Chuck is the best player on the team and the most important as well. time will prove that out.
I dunno ,I saw him get caught up ice a shitload of times since he entered the league,so that bothers me about his game( communication needs to be better & not all his fault ) but I think it's impressive though to play his mins here & be a plus team on basically a minus team. The last couple games he has looked like 9.5 Charlie though so I hope it continues.
