Yeah, I think that's more on Lohrei than Peeke. Zadorov-Peeke is very good, but Lohrei-Carlo is even worse than Lohrei-Peeke. The only pair where Lohrei hasn't been an issue has been Lohrei-McAvoy and while Lohrei's play is better, that pair hurts McAvoy.

Lohrei can score, but he hasn't learned to defend well yet, and he has to get better at sensing danger and moving the puck before he turns it over.
I've watched Lohrei since he was a teenager. We all know he was a forward but even when he was a college defenseman he was more of a rover. They seemed to let him do whatever he wanted because he could. He was that good. But now in the NHL he has to really learn and play the position. I would be patient for now and keep developing him since its much easier to teach an offensively gifted player to defend than teach a defensive player to create offense.

A good percentage of his outlet passes, especially under pressure seem to lack some zip. Those passes probably work in the NCAA and AHL. Now they get picked off.

I wouldn’t mind if they tried Lohrei at wing after Lindholm is back. Mitigates the defensive gaffs while keeping his offense in the lineup

Agreed!

Watching him I remember a young Bruins defenseman years back who was asked how his game had taken a step forward, and he mentioned that he had worked with Ray Bourque. And the thing that had stuck with this player (I'm sorry I can't remember who it was right now) the most, was that Bourque told him "whatever you do on the ice - do it HARD."

Outlet pass: hard.
Shot from the point: hard.
Clear out of the zone: hard.
One-on-one: hard.

This seems to be the thing I notice most about Lohrei and I keep hoping that Bourque would extend the same advice to him. He's far too delicate with the puck and that (more than anything) is leading to his bad giveaways and poor decisions.

Peeke doesn't do any of those things, and he's terrible with his puck on his stick and offensively in general.

Lohrei is sixth on the team in points and first for defenseman despite getting limited offensive opportunity.

Peeke is horrible with the puck and offensively and he is not the worse at it in the top six at the same time.

I dunno how limited Lorhei’s offensive opportunities are at 5 on 5 at least. He spends more time on the ice with Pasta and/or Marchand than he doesn’t.

This is just coming back to the fact that they don't have the talent they need, prospects aren't high end, players are playing higher in the lineup than they should be slot. Add in the fact that their "high end" players aren't that good this year and there starting goalie has started the season as a distraction, pissed off the locker room and now is playing like an ok backup and this is why they are bad IMO. Can you imagine if the rest of the division or conference was status quo... It would be even more embarrassing.
The lineup below is where I feel the players need to be based on there play. This means they need 2 top six players, a top pairing defenceman and Sway to play like a starter. Too much to add when they have nothing to offer.

Zacha xxx Pastrnak
Marchand Lindholm xxx
Brazz Coyle Geekie
Koepke/Frederic Beecher/Kastelic
Johnson/McLaughlin

xxx McAvoy
(Lindholm) Carlo
Zadorov Peeke
Wotherspoon/Oesterle/Lohrei

Swayman
Korp

I would love to see them trade away some players like Frederic/Coyle/Peeke, and replace with Poitras Merk/Lysell and some young talent brought in. This season is slipping away very fast. May as well start sifting through the rubble and see what to keep and what not too and build for next season. I know anything can happen in the playoffs IF they were to make it but don't see the mental toughness to get far. Physical toughness yes, no mentally though.

I think it was Hal Gill.

And that advice is what Brad Park said to Bourque first day at his rookie training camp.
For real.

You will never be able to trade Elias, Sweeney, made sure of that with the dumb ass contract, money wise, and NTC. Swayman, on the other hand out all the names mentioned, before his value declines, must be moved and retain that cap
It's unfortunately true. Some of us wanted to trade Jeremy in June when his stock was never going to be higher and we hadn't given him a huge contract, but he could still be moved for a significantly smaller return.
I think Elias was just a mistake, he felt he had to splash and nobody was there to spend it on. He could be a decent 2nd line C or a damn good but overpaid 3C. Only way to look at it is to take out the contract and appreciate what he is. Which is hard sometimes

What is weird about it? I can't stand Frederic and don't want him on this team anymore. Seems pretty straightforward. A fan of an NHL team who happens to despise one of its current players, happens all the time.
I'm ambivalent about many players' presence on the team but only one I actively hope would just not wear the B. You are not alone.

Why, and this not just on you, think those three kids can play for team right now and improve it season. I watched Merkolov last season and thought he was horrible, this time up when he was a little more encouraged, but I am not rushing out his play, but now, not so sure if he has the work ethic, that is needed to bring out his skills. Poitras, had a great camp and a good start to the season last year, but I think the everyone should be a restrained with their enthusiasm at this time, the fans want the new shiny toy, but is he really ready, remember the Bruins felt the pressure from the fans with this kid and as a result, he made the team last year, my thinking it was a mistake. Remember the fans were all on board saying Sway must be signed and I think his agent and him were like sharks in the water, feeling embolden with the fans behind them, and management caved . Lindholm has always been on Sweeneys radar, but he might have felt the pressure that fans were calling for number one center, thus another overpayment for a thirty-year-old, and added frustration the NTC, protection, that was inserted in his contract.

I guess what’s weird is I don’t understand the degree of hatred, it seems disproportionate

I've never been a fan of this player. I can deal with his inconsistent effort and production simply because he's a cheap cap hit. I can ignore his bullshit when the Bruins are winning consistently but when they are not, his bullshit steps on my last nerve.

Honestly part of it is this board itself. 8+ years now of people defending this player and this pick. Some still act like he's a young prospect with lots of potential. Others ignore his flaws because as long as his hit totals are good and he drops the gloves from time-to-time to them that is all that matters to them.

For some reason Bruins management are enamored with the guy so I fully expect them to extend him here long term.

Your view of other fans because we like the player is kinda dumb. Why can't we just like the guy and root for him.

Your hate is over the top, and what bullshit are you talking about? This part?

‘He was the one that asked me’: Trent Frederic, David Gustafsson, and the fallout from a one-punch outcome.

Faceoffs aside, there's not a single thing that Kastelic can do that Trent Frederic can't do as well or better. But one guy I notice almost every single game, while the other more often than not makes zero impact.

If Frederic played with 2/3 of Kastelic's fire - even if the scoring stats remained more or less the same - I doubt there'd be many of us with a bad thing to say about him.

And you are free to do so. But let's not act like there aren't posters on this board who have been giving him free passes since Day 1 because he's supposed to be a certain type of player. I shouldn't be too harsh because clearly Sweeney and Neely do the same thing.

You like him. I never have. And it's not like I don't like tougher players, up until last year I was one of the biggest Lucic fans on this board, grew up loving power forward types like Neely, Tkachuk, Shanahan, Guerin, Nolan, etc. I just don't like how Trent Fredric plays the game. And after multiple years of having to read the excuses, hear about how he still has potential, etc. it's finally got on my last nerve.

Frankly I'm feeling that way to a smaller degree about other players. I've seen enough of Brandon Carlo to last me a lifetime. Charlie McAvoy has started grinding my gears last year and it's continued this year.

He's second on the team in hits, he must be doing something when he's out there.

Also pretty sure his shots on net total are up there as well for forwards not getting significant PP time.

Spot on Bill.

How long will the team stick with Lohrei’s defensive shortcomings before sending him to Providence to work with Adam McQuaid?

Run 7 D.

They don't have the depth to run 4 lines anyways and they need Lohrei's offense a lot more than they do whatever the heck they would be getting from the revolving door that is Forward #12.

This is my opinion as well. Scratch Beecher and nothing is really lost that super shifting Pasta or Kastelic depending on the situation can't be replicated or improved on.
