You don't want those kind of guys under contract, you want young guys in those roles. Plus there's a limit for how many guys like that you can have.

Ideally you could somehow slip Ponomarev through waivers and run with something like:

Ilyin-Broz-Bemstrom
Poulin-Ponomarev-Hayes

I'd bring back at least one vet AHL scorer lik Bemstrom or Katchouk and then I guess it depends on if Ilyin's going to be in WBS or Cherepovets plus if they leave an NHL spot open for Poulin and Ponomarev to compete for. Two AHL vets with NHL experience would make sense, with one of them being a centre.

I'd also bring back Marc Johnstone as bottom 6 depth as he has played under 260 pro games so qualifies as a development player.

Bemstrom is an RFA on an NHL deal, so I wouldn't be surprised if they keep him versus signing guys like Katchouk.

Yeah Bemstrom may not cut it in the NHL deal but he's clearly a great AHL player. I'm just not sure they end up re-signing him, but I definitely would.

Interesting thing to note: June 1st was the UFA day in the KHL and it turned June 1st at 5:00 PM EST today. Not surprising that it was announced right after that.

I still hold out hope for Tankov. For what he went through, it’s hard not to root for him given that.

One of the knocks for Ilyin is he isn’t a good skater. Highlights are one thing, but I am curious to see if he’s worked on it when he shows up for camp.

Even though I'm expecting Ilyin to go back to the KHL for next year, he'd be a huge addition to WBS I think with the graduation of McGroarty and Koivunen. With those two gone, WBS is really lacking in scoring talent especially if guys like Bemstrom aren't re-signed.

Howe is out for until like January I believe and the only good AHL forwards WBS has under contract right now are Broz, Hayes, Poulin and Puustinen.

Hopefully we can make some trades for prospects on the cusp.
