Prospect Info: '24-'25 Prospects Thread: Generation Z

I still have some hope for Blom but a Blom / Murashov tandem on what should be another solid baby Penguins squad, with hopefully a tweaked system from the big club, will be interesting to follow and see who separates from who.

IMO I think you move Nedjelkovic and run with Jarry-Blomqvist in the NHL and Larsson-Murashov-Gauthier in the AHL.

Maybe. I think Blom sucked so bad in the NHL compared to the AHL that I’d like to see him string a few good AHL games together, maybe a month or two worth, before we give him more NHL time.

I think Gauthier doesn’t get QOed, just as like a favor to him so he can find a better opportunity.

Blomqvist may have been nursing something his second time in the NHL. When he was sent back to the AHL, he missed a month due to an injury.

That seems possible. Shot confidence from playing behind such a bad team probably didn’t help. I’m not writing him off yet though, lots of current starting goalies had ups and downs early in their career even at lower levels.

It's hard to hate the list too much but I think Murashov is getting shafted a bit here, especially if Pono is #5. He's almost in the same category as Poulin and Puustinen even.

The top 4 are pretty clear and I think you could order them in nearly every way imaginable and have a good argument. After 4, 5-10 is the same way. Order them how you want, whatever.

Ponomarev probably isn't in my top-10 prospects at this point. Same boat as Poulin for me.

My top-10 right now is probably:

1. McGroarty
2. Koivunen
3. Brunicke
4. Pickering
5. Murashov
6. Blomqvist
7. Broz
8. Howe
9. Fernstrom
10. Pieniniemi

I think you can reasonable argue a lot of guys in the 9-10 range, though. I think Ponomarev and Ilyin all have arguments to be above Fernstrom and Pieniniemi, although all 4 of them are probably pushed out of the top-10 after the draft.

I like that list, but I'd probably move Blomqvist down (9-10? not sure). I'm just not sold on him at this point, and he's starting to get out of prospect territory as well. For similar reasons you aren't ranking Ponomarev as well tbh.

Ilyin was probably offered a contract with the intent of him starting in the AHL, but he's probably better off spending another year or 2 in the KHL and then immediately jumping to the NHL. Not overly worried about him not signing yet.
