Prospect Info: '24-'25 Prospects Thread: Generation Z

I guess what i meant is it's surprising how polarized the views are overall.
Honest answer, I think it’s because the two camps both want something entirely different from their announcing teams. One wants the announcers to reaffirm what their own views are and the other camp wants the announcers to be entertainment.

I’m in the later camp.

I grew up with Lange so it's definitely about entertainment, yeah. But it's also about teaching the game and providing insight.

HONEST insight...
Agreed. But I struggle to find where Bourque provides any insight. He provides reinforcement for people that are already criticizing the players (so they can say "see, Bourque saw it too!"), but he rarely adds anything new or interesting.

On the other hand, Errey was goofy as hell but would occasionally drop some wisdom or insight from the ice level and drawn from his years of playing experience that was actually useful.

If you could get past Errey being a goofball (and many could not) then he actually dusted off quite a bit of knowledge during every broadcast.

And lol... Bourque is the opposite of insight. But if you hate you some Evgeni Malkin already and think the whole game can be solved by "HURR NO TURNOVER GIVE 110% COACH ALWAYS KNOW BEST!" then he's your man I guess.

It's no surprise I guess that there's a lot of people who simply want their biases about the game confirmed, but hell, they could do that for free on the internet and have some actual interaction.

If you believe Burke we were one pick away from grabbing Knies instead of Broz. Unfortunate if true.

I have a feeling the Pens got cucked in a similar way with wanting Benson and ending up with Yager. That one still works out fine if McGroarty pans out though.

just another case of if there is someone you want, move up and grab him.

The Pens being only 1 spot above the leafs in that ranking doesn't make any sense. They lost Minten and Grebenkin this year. That leaves them with literally just Cowan/Danford and a pile of shit. The Pens pool isn't anything special but I don't get what the ranks are based on
It’s not a real ranking. It’s purely a spreadsheet based on NHLe. So how much prospects score in their respective leagues. Waste of time.

Yeah the Avs also gutted their prospect pool when they moved Ritchie and the 1st for Nelson at the deadline. No way they're above the Penguins either.

It’s amazing how far McG stock fell from a slow start even as his first year as a pro.

Yeah Pono over Brunicke is a choice.
Proof they're just lazy because nobody is gonna fact check them on anything.

I respect the hustle in that regard, but really, it should be on us fans to demand and support better quality sports journalism.

Most fans like slop though, which is the paradox.

The development is key here. How they handle the growth and maturation of the younger talent will go a long way in when the Pens are ready to roll. It will take a couple years to have the greatest number of younger players now making the NHL. Sid, Geno Karlsson gone, maybe Letang, one of the forwards by then. New system. play much better defense and sound positioning also will go a long way to bringing the Pens back into the winning stance.

Ilyin is only 20 so it's not the end of the world, but seems like he'd rather spend another few seasons in the KHL over signing with the Penguins to likely play in the AHL.

Developing into a larger contributor in the KHL for another year or two before making a transition to North American hockey is probably his best bet for success.

Ilyin back to the KHL for another year isn't the end of the world. He will continue to develop there just as well as in NA.

I'd love to know his thoughts on coming over though. Is it a "maybe one day" or "no, I'm staying in Mother Russia"?

Have an annoying feeling Martin is gonna get Sennecke'd and get taken in the 6-8 range
