Prospect Info: '24-'25 Prospects Thread: Generation Z

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Not what I’m alluding to at all? I made up an extreme hypothetical example about drafting for position over who you think could be the best player. Which I literally say in my post. You gotta read before you type some of these essays man.
Which if you read, you would realize that comment had nothing to do with the rest of the post.

which is why I replied to a small part of the post…

I really don’t fault you for having a different opinion on a prospect. If you think a guy is better that is fair.

I just find myself hating like ALL of your takes on hockey. And they’re so verbose. No offense. But it’s prob why I come across like a dick to you.

For starters, the injury thing is a big part of it.
Also, I would venture to guess that that Gryz will be back next season. So they’ll run back Gryz/Letang. From there, you certainly aren’t putting an 18 year old puck mover with Karlsson. It’s hard enough for an experienced 2 way d-man to have that role. So by default, there just isn’t a spot there unless one of Letang or Karlsson is gone.

I don't think you should be making roster decisions with young guys like Schaefer based on how well they fit with Letang or Karlsson. They need to focus on doing what is best for their development, I think it would be a huge mistake to not give Schaefer a chance because you don't think he fits with Letang or Karlsson.

If Schaefer is NHL ready, he should be in the NHL. Karlsson isn't a part of this team's future while Schaefer will be.

Wonder if he makes the jump to Wilkes or Wheeling? Might be tough for Wilkes, because they currently have 103 skaters on the roster at the moment.

Seems like a good kid. Maybe an overage season might be good for him? Though physically he is a big boy so maybe an AHL contract and spending most of the year in Wheeling before jumping up ot the AHL.

Chase Pietila released from his ATO, sent to Wheeling. That didn't last very long.
With the current logjam at D the org has, not the worst for him to get some reps in Wheeling for now until his ELC kicks in. From an AHL/ECHL perspective its looking like next year its Brunicke, Pietila, Pieniniemi, Harding, and Laatsch in with Clurman, Hollowell, Kral, and Poolman out.

Couldnt hurt to get him an ATO and see if he can help Wheeling for their playoff push.

Brunicke has to return to the WHL for next year, he's a May 2026 birthday.

Howe can play in the AHL but Brunicke can't.

Defensemen rarely make the jump right away. It is just harder to break in. You can't be sheltered as much in that role and take much more abuse. Outside of Dahlin which high drafter Dmen have started at 18 recently?
Yeah they have to be much more complete. They’re under so much more pressure to not make mistakes. Guys at F can have half their plays not work and still be a positive, if you do that at D you’re getting caved in.

If Brunicke makes the Pens roster next year and plays more than 10 games, he is now a NHL player and I assume he can be sent down to WB. I think when Karlsson is moved, he will be the RD that makes the D next year. Pickering, Brunicke, St Ivany, Shea look to be in the mix with Letang and Graves. Really don't want Gryz back and vet left D with some bang makes sense. Eventually one of the younger LD's have to emerge.

I agree with emp re: Schaefer. There are three pairings on a team, and if he is not a fit with either Karlsson or Letang (I am not convinced, but maybe so), then try him with Timmins (I assume we keep him, although if Grz is back that creates problems in the numbers game).

I would like to think that if this team drafts a Schaefer, that it changes their thinking regarding Matt fricking' Grzelcyk, but I think it is a foregone conclusion that he is going to re-sign.

And I am not convinced that Dubas even wants him back!

Unless the Pens win the lottery there is zero chance the Pens get a look at Schaefer. And if that happened I would have a hard time taking him over Misa.
