'24-25 Former Predators Thread

  • Xenforo Cloud has upgraded us to version 2.3.6. Please report any issues you experience.
I remember after he had some health issues post-Herd 1.0 and got sent back to Milwaukee and looked like he might flame out even in the AHL... it was astonishing that Columbus gave up a draft pick for him at all. I was definitely not predicting he'd have this kind of resurgence!

Fabbro next please!

:handclap:

They will be trying to move it by year 3.

I'm happy for him, but he is a guy that will wake up one morning and just be physically done and then still have 3-4 years left on a contract.
With how fast the cap is going up over the next 3 seasons, im thinking that is going to become the normal contract value for a player of his ability. Cap is jumping by 29% over the next 3 seasons.

It ain't the cap that's the issue, it's the term.
Given the expected state of the cap by then, nobody serious really cares. The guy is one of the chief sources of sheer willpower holding this team together. I know "intangibles" is a good way to get eyes rolling but sometimes you really do just get the right guy at the right time.

The easiest way to describe it is that there's three guys* who really stepped up and kept everyone together at the start of the season with the loss of Johnny (z''l) and the long-term injury to Jenner - Monahan, Werenski, and Olivier. The other two already have their long-term deals up here.

*: With an honorable mention to Marchenko because everybody loves him and he's been an epic badass.

Yep and in year 3 you will be on the trade boards wanting someone to take him off your hands because those " intangibles" went out the door when his body starts falling apart.

This ain't my first rodeo, every team that signs these types of guys long term talks about how great it is the day it happens, and then by the end of the 2nd year no one remembers how great it was.

I think you're assuming the breakdown of his career arriving far faster than normal. :dunno:

We will see, I just know how he plays, and that style adds up quick. He will be 29 next February, in the context of him everyone acts like that is young, meanwhile Forsberg is turning 30 and all the talk is how he is about over the hill.

The contract will not be great a few years down the road but their cap space for the foreseeable future makes the point moot. Unless their GM goes out and gets a bunch of 34 year old players and puts the team up against the cap, then it doesnt matter and they dont look to ditch him even if his play dips back to previous seasons. He is being rewarded for stepping up in the crapiest of circumstances and helping to lead his team through a really tough time.
