QUOTES TO NOTE:

We have a more talented team than last year, right?
I believe we’re a better team and I believe we can sustain this, but it’s a matter of making our minds up to play the right way.
- Chris Kreider

It comes down to focus. I’ve been focusing on a few things in practice to bring into the games.
The last couple of games, I’ve felt better and better. But we have been better, too.
- Henrik Lundqvist

I think we were demoralized by that "too many men" penalty, and that’s on me.
I’m the head coach here and that can’t happen. And I can guarantee you that won’t happen again.
- David Quinn

*I don’t get those lines. Wouldn’t this top 9 be better?
Kreider-Ziba-Kakko
Panarin-Strome-Fast
Lemieux-Chytil-Buch

*It might be good to play Boston 1am. Might not be either if we aren’t ready. But usually unusual conditions is better against a better team...

15 GP 521 SA. Yikes. Yeah, it’s the goalies fault.
Rask is at 492 in 16 gp.
Not too far off.

The bigger issues are the quality of chances against (too many very tough saves which we know he's been hammered by bad d), Hanks age and his inability to make enough saves to warrant his price tag for the last 4 years.

I don't necessarily begrudge Hank for taking 8 for 8. But if he wanted to be fair he should've recognized that the last handful of years he'd slow down and be unable to play at an 8M level. If he had taken a 6 year deal then 8 was fair.

I'd say he was worth 8 the first few years, 6M 3 and 4 years ago and around 4-5 M ever since. We never got a major discount on his contracts, not even when eating rfa years.

That said he could've Carey priced us. Or Erik karlsson

Why would he take less? Would you? You think he couldn’t have signed nearly anywhere he wanted to for more? Most likely he could have. He’s the most consistently good goalie of this generation - that’s something you have to pay for. Some of the criticism that’s thrown his way about this contract is positively befuddling. He’s a top 5 Ranger all time great. If there’s anything being “discounted” around here it’s that. Sheesh.

Quinn's quote about that TMM penalty is pretty much exactly what a bunch of us were saying (and getting shit on about) in the GDT.

Him owning up to something like that is night and day from how AV would react. Hopefully that quality bleeds down to every guy on the roster over time; I think we've already seen it start happening.

I'll be missing this game, and watching a recorded version once I'm off work. Enjoy, guys!

I too appreciated Quinn taking the too many men penalty on himself. Even though it’s Lemieux or Buchy multiple times he’s protecting his players. He lit them up on the bench but in public he took it. That’s leadership and things like that are appreciated. He did put it on Buchy last time and maybe he realized he shouldn’t have. Either way it was the right thing to do.
