QUOTES TO NOTE:

I can’t thank the trainers enough for even their patience, it’s not easy.
Their job is to keep us healthy and try to help us out with that. I know as much as they love their work, they probably want to see all the guys on the ice and all healthy.
- Mika Zibanejad

Panarin’s unreal. I think everybody is impressed with him, his skill set, the plays he makes, he plays both sides of the puck, too.
Sometimes you just think a guy is all offense. I don’t know if you guys saw, but Monday night he had a huge backcheck in the game, too.
There was a two-on-one and he backchecked and took two guys out of the play. And then we went on the attack.
He’s been really impressive and been great for us so far. We’re happy to have him.
- Tony DeAngelo

I thought Panarin was going to be impactful, it’s been better than I envisioned.
Not just because of what we’ve seen on the ice but, I’ve talked about this before, what he brings away from the rink.
His personality and how much he loves the game. He’s a great example for our young players.
- David Quinn

I'd like to see Panarin shoot more. His shot is too good and no one is shooting. If they're taking him away on the PP, I'd like to see Zibs in high slot.

On the PP Panarin shoots a lot. 34.83 iCF/60 @ PP. 11th overall for forwards. At even strength, though he's in like the 80s.

NYR PP is 10th overall w/ 20.8%. What's weird is the Home/Away difference. 27.3 Home PP%, 12.1 Home PP%. Maybe it's because everyone at the Garden yells at them to shoot.

Here are our PP players sorted by iCF/60:

Am I crazy or not accounting for lack of experience, this is the most talented roster we've had in quite some time. Maybe since I've been following the Rangers. By not accounting for lack of experience I mean someone like Kakko is obviously not a great player yet but he's extremely talented.

Highest ceiling? Yes†

Highest realized talent? Please...

I feel like he was shooting a lot more a couple weeks ago. Last game it felt like he was trying to get Kakko a goal.

but yeah... at ES he always tries to set people up, even though he's not playing with the most talented players. Another reason I'd like him to play with a 'finisher'

I realize it wasn't the highest realized talent and that's why I said excluding experience. Also, excluding experience our D isn't terrible either.

I'm saying it's easy to get ahead of ourselves. If we lost last game, then would of had no future.

The defense is way worse than it's been in the last 15 years, and will what percent of Lundqvist will Shesty meet?

Why are we still playing Howden on the 3rd line? Fast is a better player, he should be on the 3rd line with Howden as an excellent 4th line center.
These are the lines tonight....

Kreids - Zibad - Buchy

Bread - Strome - Quick

Lemeiux - Chytil - Kakko

Haley - Howden - Smith

Maybe Nieves for Haley

Bold lettering was confirmed by Quinn. The rest is a simple deduction by me.

That is 3 solid lines right there. Love that Chytil and Lemieux are put together,... Their speed should complement one another. That could create space for Kakko

Probably best for now..I was concerned about Filip losing his spot as 2c with Pavel and Kreider..In the end Filip with K2 and Lemeiux could work. Quinn has to make a decision on matchups. Does he use the 4th line as a matchup or Filip's line as a hybrid scoring /checking.

I’d be interested in having Zibanejad on the 2nd PP unit. Probably more useful than having him behind the net or in the slot on 1PP. Panarin, Kakko, ADA with Kreider and Strome unit has done very well.

Zibanejad would help this 2PP getting a puck into the zone and having a (very dangerous) RH shot in the left circle. Zibanejad, Buchnevich, ADA or Fox, Lemieux and Chytil would probably be one of the most dangerous 2nd units out there.

It might be a good idea to put Panarin back with Zibanejad for 3 or 4 games to help Mika get back up to speed but IMO we diversify our attack by putting both of them on separate lines with different players and maybe only using them together on the power play. Mika can carry a line and so can Artemi--we've seen evidence of that last year from Mika and we've seen evidence of that for a good month and a half with Mika out injured from Artemi. Neither of them are dependent on each other to keep their numbers up. Something like:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich (they were very good together last year)
Panarin-Strome-Kakko (they all seem to have good cemistry together)
Lemieux-Chytil-Fast
Howden and Smith on the 4th line mixing in whoever out of McKegg, Nieves, Haley, Andersson, Gettinger.

Possibly true for 13 of those years, but compared to the last two it gets very debatable. And that's if we ignore that we're 1st or 2nd in points contribution from defensemen this year.
