Dallas has been rebuilding for a while, stocking on picks/prospects.
- Benn was a great find in the 5th round, but every team gets one of those once a decade.
- Chiasson was a 2nd round pick that panned out due to great scouting.
- Nichuskhin was a #12 pick that fell due to the Russian factor.
- Seguin was a deal Dallas was able to make because they had stocked up on prospects and picks for so long. They were able to sell part of the farm in Morrow (acquired in a sell deal to Pitts), Smith (drafted/scouted), and Fraser (scouted) along with Eriksson.
The Rangers haven't been in a position where they're stocking up on assets to develop like that in a while. Also the West generally places more emphasis on size, so drafting goes that way too.
