If they finish around .500, that could be like a 20+ point jump, which would be progress for sure.

I’m telling you, teams seem to kill those “revenge” penalties off at a higher rate. I have no stats to back up my statement, also please don’t write me an essay, but 3 of those kills were what I consider “revenge” kills after the events with Carlsson.

I know he lives rent free in your head, and I think you’re wrong because Fowler is clearly a top 4 dman on this team… but the only dman I’d want out of the lineup right now is Gudas and that ain’t happening. Lacombe is the likely bench prospect when/if Fowler comes back

Agree to disagee

Mintyukov dumo and zellweger are better

Helleson/Vaaks are playing better

Lacombe is prob equal give or take

Gudas I’ll agree has been ass, but he brings things to the game that others don’t bring… which means he brings some sort of value.

Even with the news of Leo being ok, I’m still glad they did what they did in the end. Had a 3 goal lead, less than 5 mins. Have to send a message around the league. “Don’t mess with our kids” This has been lacking with this team over the years. Need to be more physical.

Don’t disagree with anything you’re saying. In a vacuum, Fowler is a top 4 dman on this team because he’s better than the individual parts. However, like you stated, pairings are seemingly meshing and where Fowler would replace a dman probably doesn’t make sense. That stated, we’re still giving up way too many shots, so I would like to trust a coaching staff to determine if he could help suppress some of those. I’m not smart enough hockey wise to determine if he can help that aspect, but I do know he’s still probably our best breakout defenseman which we still suck at.

Special teams have been clearly better. PK more aggressive and PP better entries and more puck movement. I know we’ve decided that Cronin is a moron, so should we credit assistants for making adjustments?
The pp not doing the drop pass every time up the ice was a big change…. Zegras zellweger carlsson terry and mctavish are all very capable of just skating the puck in the zone without it. I don’t mind it vs certain style of penalty kills but how we were using it was completely wrong.

On pk the pressure was another great change, earlier in the season we were much too passive on pk.

Idk who gets credit for all this, but good on them…. Both units looking solid.

Powerplay can still get better, I think we need to weaponize gauthier and zellweger shots better.

I feel like the shot part is tough…. Don’t think it’s on the dmen as much as the system/forwards.

I think our breakout should be the next thing the team looks at…. Again I think it’s an issue with forwards not giving the dmen breaking out enough passing lanes.

Drop pass gives penalty killers more time to set up. I hope they don’t stick Fowler back on the PK. The Dumoulin/Mintyukov and Gudas/LaCombe pairs have been fine.

I think they’re similar. Soft, passive, puck movers. LaCombe is younger and cheaper.

LaCombe isn't soft, but he is non-aggressive. Just like his hard work on the defensive end that lead to a Z goal, he doesn't get that +1 rating on the stat sheet even though he was the catalyst. That SF and GF metric doesn't get credited to him, but the defenseman who stepped onto the ice without doing any work. In this game it, that d-man was Minty. (Source: Game Visualizer, Ducks' goal #5) That is part of the reason I don't agree with tonight's stat card. This happened often last season too.

Unlike Fowler, LaCombe is actually suited for the PK. LaCombe has been part of the shutout streak for the PK unit for the last five games, going 13 for 13.

Fowler and LaCombe are two different types of puck movers. LaCombe is a more of a defensive-minded puck mover who is still developing that aggressive offensive game. It took some time for LaCombe to show off his offense in college b/c he was more focused on learning defense as a converted forward in high school. Last year, LaCombe finished 3rd in blocked shots with 129 blocks in 71 games as a rookie with the Ducks, behind Gudas (154) and Lyubushkin (138). Fowler was behind LaCombe with 119 with 10 more games played than LaCombe. (Fowler has hit over 129 blocks once in his 15 year NHL career.) Fellow rookie Minty had 65 blocks in 63 games.

Outshot 45-33

Take the win but it's alot of stress on these goalies

Tonight's unbalanced SOG result isn't like previous games where we would complain about it.

Our goalies have been great. The PK unit has also been great for the past five games as they've gone 13 for 13. Tonight, the Ducks had to kill off 5 penalties, where PK #4 and #5 were a 4-minute, contiguous PK. That would skew the shots, especially when Seattle is down three goals late in the third. Here's Natural Stat Trick's shot chart at 5v5. (All shots, including missed shots = Corsi; All unblocked shots, including missed shots = Fenwick)

It's a pretty even game at 5v5, which means we weren't caved in often.

Here's the "all-situations" stat for the game, where it supports the Ducks being completely outshot. Anaheim had 2 PP's and the Kraken had 5 PP's, including a 4-min PP. That's 10 minutes of the game that the Kraken can just tee off. That would skew the SOG's (and shots) by a fair margin.

Still, we gotta give Gibby a whole helluva lot of credit for saving our asses on the PK in this game.

Mintyukov and Z dynamic. Also like Leason and Cutter.

Minty's rating is misleading for this game. Minty is still dynamic, but not as dynamic as this score card represents. He came onto to the ice as LaCombe was getting off the ice and a half second later Z scored the goal. Since the score card only uses stats on the sheet, Minty received the +1 rating, the SF, and GF while he was on the ice.

Good game. PK has improved and that is a win for the coaching staff. PP still has room to grow. The seem to be more aggressive, especially on defense, in the offensive zone. They still need to figure out how to defend effectively. Teams carry the puck into the zone too easily and consistently.

Zegras is playing really well. It's a reminder for those worried about McTavish. Growth isn't linear and young players take time. McTavish showed last season that the ability is there; he needs more time to figure it all out. I personally think he's better suited for the wing. Cutter looks like the real deal. That trade may be end up being one of PV's career best.

Gudas is playing too much. The Ducks need a RD who can play the minutes with Minty. I don't think Zellweger, Luneau, Helleson, etc... will work long-term. Minty is such a good player. What a good pick by the Ducks.

Someone like Fabbro would have been a pretty good partner for Minty.

Good win, acceptable response by the team.

While I'd like to have seen Ross just destroy Kartye in a fight the team made the dudes life rough tonight. Laid in big hits and then Ross giving him some extra shots after a cross check from Harkins.

Gibson has looked like his old self this season. Him and Dostal will make beating the Ducks very difficult if both maintain this level.

Correct, but Mintyukov keeping the puck in the offensive zone led directly to 2 goals, one on the PP. I agree that those cards tend to overrate guys that are on the ice for goals (similar to +/-).

Played good 5on5. Played good on the PP. PK was great. Had a response to the hit on Leo once the game was in control.

Just a great win. 5-2-1 in our last 8. If pucks are going in the net with our goaltending we are going to win some games. Zegras is dynamic.

According to jake Rudolph’s Twitter “ Ross Johnston doesn’t look good there, not a time to get your pound of flesh” if I didn’t know him better, would think he was some big troll.

Meh. Some people have there opinions on how the game should be policed. After playing for 30 years and coaching a high level for 10 my opinion is sometimes you need to send a message. Sometimes that message needs to be sent with a beating.

Wins like that mixed with sending that message late and killing it off could really bring this team more together.

Harkins too, I like this guy. We haven't had enough speedy shitheadedness on some of these boring ass teams in recent years
Yeah I was like that signing is so MEH. Since he’s been called up though I’ve liked his game and energy.
