@Drivesaitl

Remember when I said not everything is a foregone conclusion? ;)
You said that about Canada vs Swiss.

In group stage anything can happen in any game. But it stands Canada failed to pick up a W against the weakest opponent in the group. All teams being tied with 1pt arguably increases pressure as anybody can advance.

The Swiss have more experience and I still see them having an edge on Canada with that.

Disappointed Maghreb couldn't get the W but still feel they'll take the group. They're underrated and IMO Brazil is overrated. I grew up watching R9, Dinho, Kaka, Roberto Carlos etc. Real legends of the game. Get out of here with Vini Jr lmao

(I'm also incredibly biased here as a Neymar and Vini hater and someone who has heritage from MENA)

Congrats to Scotland on getting the job done.

Turkiye Australia for the first match in Vancouver!

Turkiye vs Australia a fantastic match. Best I've seen so far this WC. Vancouver fans getting a treat. Both sides playing the right way looking to create. Aussies amazingly calm defending so far against a clinical creative Turkiye side. Beautiful football. Aussies score the best goal of the tournament to take the 1-0 lead on a textbook brilliant counter. Potentially a knockout. But to credit the Red wave keeps coming.

Also the hardest shot I've seen yet Turkiye banging it off post from well out, goalie clearly beat. A curving beast of a shot.

This game having everything. What a great game for a Saturday night. I'm jealous.

Match of 2026 so far. Australia with a clinical counter performance and stalwart defending take the game 2-0 on surgical high speed counters punishing Turkiye who were controlling possession all match.

If you get a chance @brentashton take a look at this match or at least extended highlights. Australia played a letter perfect game. Pretty much a similar plan that Korea played in beating defending world Champion German in 2018.

One of the reasons the counter is more effective, and more dangerous is you get wide open field and ability to finish in the open.

Turkiye took 30sog in this game, pretty much a record. But they were shooting into a forest of Aussie legs. The Australians finish on their two goals was letter perfect inside post.

This Aussie club is easy to love. Young team, 10 of the starters its their first WC, and they played with amazing poise and executed a perfect game plan flawlessly. I could hardly count any Aussie defending miscues today. They were rock solid. Gonna be a tough out this Australia side.

Just got home from this game. What an amazing game and incredible experience. Australia team defense was excellent. As was their goaltender. Big team. I read about Turkey's young (& rich) stars but they were held mostly in check all night. Fast team. That post on a rocket shot was good fortune for the Aussies.

Massive party on Granville street. Bars are open until 4 am.

Great start for Canada's Westcoast hosting.

Like I say it was the best match of the tournament so far and on Telly BC Place looked marvelous. Not like the BMO disappointment. What a game to be at. This would probably be one of the most entertaining games you've seen. It had everything, and of course its World Cup with all that drama.

Thoroughly enjoyed our experience. BC Place does look great - very clean and the grass field is excellent. First World Cup game. Thought this might be our only one with the pricing and saw the close rankings of these two teams and chose it. Along with first game in the West. Exceeded our expectations - my wife is not a big soccer fan.

I've since sold body parts (half kidding) to go solo to Canada Swiss game; Egypt and New Zealand (ugg); the knockout round of 32 and 16 games. Once in a lifetime... made a difference that wifey didn't want to go. Don't have a Bucket List but seeing World Cup competition has been a lifelong goal.

Did watch the Brazil Morocco game earlier today. Thought that was a high tempo, high skill game.
