Uruguay needed to win that one. They only have 2 points and only the Spain game left.

Finishing in 3rd place with 2 points will likely not be enough.

If Cabo Verde can beat Saudi and Uruguay/Spain draw we are looking at Cabo Verde as group winners.

Unreal.

Edit - No they would need to pound SA lol

Belgium just received a red card in the second half against Iran in a scoreless game. Likely to be another draw or even a loss for them today. This tournament is quickly turning in to a major bust for them. Probably the biggest disappointment so far.
You clearly didn't watch Uruguay today. What an absolutely hopeless game from them managing only a 2-2 tie with the Cabo Verde Wrexham allstars (absolute sarcasm)

The 2nd cabo goal, lol you gotta see it. Uruguay has their own half throw in. Terrible trhow in, then the guy getting it makes a colossal blunder muffing it right into his own box then the goalie loses his mind running after it, another defender f***s up, and the one Cabo player around gets the ball and puts it in an open net. The single stupidest sequence of play I've ever seen in my life.

Worse the broadcast made it sound like it was some brilliant goal as they cheer on Cabo verde brilliance lol.

I wouldn't expect a 12 yr old boys team to make so colossal a blunder than Uruguay did and with around one absolutely dismal play and 3 other players that f***ed up as well, including the goalie.

True. But f*** Spain either way
tbh I don't hate them. I like looking at beautifully played football and they are capable of it. Sure they've beat Germany at times but I don't hold it against them. Rather that than losing to say France, Belgium, Netherlands or England.

For the benefit of a watchable tournament you want more Spains and less minnows being the story.

Cape Verde masterclass
lol What a garbage game it was. Uruguay produced every goal scored in the game for both sides. Was a nicely taken free kick goal.

But what a curious game from Uruguay. Honestly I feel sorry for their fans watching that. Imagine having a 2-1 lead and you hand the opponent a goal off of your own throw in. The only thing worse than what transpired would be the Uruguay throw itself feeding the box. But thats what resulted anyway.

If I made that lame duck pass into my own box (why even do that) I'd never play Football again. Not just the pass that was brutal, why even go there? He was unpressured.

What a gift.

I had to stop watching at half time, but the two goals Uruguay scored were what football fans want to see, no? I was entertained.
Yes. The Uruguay goals and the CV free kick goal was nice. But MR instagram goalie from CV was saved infamy on an awful sequence where he failed to grab ball and Uruguay scored a third. The goal called back because its what God, cough. FIFA wants. :)

The tieing goal was the stupidest bit of football from Uruguay ever seen since the last time. Their fans go through a lot.

Good game here in Van

lol, I made that post before the Uruguay game started but yeah, they’ve been awful as well. It would appear all the South American teams outside of Argentina and perhaps Brazil have been mediocre here.

Very enjoyable Egypt New Zealand game. Two games in one with NZ playing a great first half and then Egypt flipped a switch in the second half. Egypt defending became much more aggressive and play turned. A noticeable difference with the strikers. Just looked really good in the first half but burned alot of energy and seemed to sag in the second. Salah was economical in his movement but had the motor and skill to be the difference maker in the second half.

Big turning point seemed to be a non call against Egypt on a deep NZ run which turned the other way into the Egyptian go ahead goal. I was far distance so couldn't see the play detail but it seemed like a foul.

Refs seem to be letting contact more than I can ever recall in World Cup. Might be the diver repellant needed for some clubs but can create some inconsistent play calling.

Next up Canada v Swiss Cheese!
