How's Nelson trsde protection work? Sakic should exile him to Canada.

Nelson and a pick for Petterson with retention.

At least Petterson is younger. And might be motivated being on a winning team.

He needs to go to VAN or SJS. Those are like the only teams he even has a shot of doing that.
SJ is the perfect place for him. Young enough to be part of a young team for a long time, has won a Cup, and gained plenty of experience in Buffalo that he can pass on to the kids.

Byram is a much, much better fit in San Jose than Rielly or Nurse.

Although they need to focus on the right side more.

You should see the DMs I get, even from members of HFAvs. "Who are you and why should we trust you? Who do you know? Why would you know this and nobody else?" I don't even reply, but it's amusing most of the time, annoying sometimes. I make it clear I don't look for clout, mainsteam acknowledgement, or fans of other teams giving a shit. I just share what I can here for other passionate Avs fans.
Well you are Binnington's cuz lol

I could definitely see him signing in Vancouver but for LESS? I'll believe it when I see it. The kid's #1, #2, and #3 priority is money. I don't hold that against him because get paid but that's how I see it.

I don't think we know him well enough to know how much he prioritizes these things.

Does he prioritize money above all else, or does he prioritize picking where he wants to play above all else, and only a max deal would get him to forgo that?

We used to say he prioritizes being a #1, but I think we've seen that's not true. We used to say he was tough to negotiate with, but he signed on July 1st with the Avs, and July 15th with the Sabres.

We'll see what happens, but I think he takes less money in Vancouver than anywhere else, because I think that's where he wants to play more than anywhere else.

I mean RIAL and Friedman both said role was a big reason he wanted out. And now role is a big reason he’s looking to leave Buffalo. Maybe he doesn’t need to be a #1 but he at minimum needs to be on a top pair.

He was being played as a 6D on his off side on the Avs when he was traded. And I still think he would have been fine staying if he could play his way back to a #3 role chasing Cups.

Why do we think role is a big reason he wants to leave Buffalo? He was 2nd overall in TOI and 1st in EV during the playoffs. He can't prioritize money above all else and role at the same time.

My guess is he prioritizes location and the "opportunity" to play on the top pair, with money a close 2nd/3rd. Very similar to most players. He had an opportunity to play on the top pair with the Avs, and given the way he's played the last couple years, he might have been able to.

He was getting shifted to the pair with Cale halfway through most games they were winning or losing, before he started struggling anyway. The opportunity was there. Avs just lost patience and were desperate for a 2C.

But Burns is at least younger than @Gee Wally by about 600 centuries

Would love to see Joe go straight back to work being a stone dead killer in trades:

Nuke, the Avs 2027 2nd (from Minny), and 3rd (from Nashville) plus Minny's 2027 1st and 3rd going to Detroit.
Nelson to Minny
Larkin to Colorado.

I know he’s old and slow, but could Patrick Kane help our PP? Not exactly a shooter, but he’s used to playing that halfwall that the Avs just can’t seem to figure out since Mikko left.

We need some defense..
Yeah. We also, unfortunately, still require a 2nd line center... unless you think another year old Kadri is up for the task. But Brock Nelson has just emphatically told the Avs over the course of the last two playoffs, that he's not that guy.

I would agree, D is the most pressing matter facing the Avs roster at the moment, but if you can swap out Nuke and Nelson for Larkin and cap space. You find another way to fix the D.
