Rumor: 2026 Trade Rumors and Free Agency: Offseason Edition

If they wanted to, they could go big name hunting for a Dman.

They've got about $9.2M in space with 13F, 4D, and 2G.

They usually only carry 1 extra player so they could very well have $9M+ to spend on a 2LD and a 3LD. Could easily afford like $7-7.5M on the 2LD and then $1.5M for a 3LD.

Landeskog-MacKinnon-Necas
Lehkonen-Nelson-Roy
Kelly-Kadri-O'Connor
L'Heureux-Svechkov-Hughes
Brindley, Nielsen

Toews-Makar
X-Malinski
X-Manson
Aamodt

Cap Space: $7.45M

---

Lines subject to change. With (3) extras, they've got slightly under $7.5M to fill these two D holes.

We had a super strong roster, dominated the NHL regular season, and still got humiliated in the Western Conference Final.

All 3 of these guys needed to go for a variety of reasons.

Have faith in trying out some new players

Guessing management is not as down on Nelson as people on here? We'd get a haul at the current market for him though and we'd still have Kadri/Roy down the middle.
Brindley with Nelson could work. Brindley seems more like a distributor than a sniper and could see him setting up Old Man Nelson regularly.

We rarely carried 23 players over the past couple of years. You can safely pencil in 13 F + 7 D + 2 G, in my opinion. The 14th forward is an hour away in Loveland.

That roster looks pencilled in for 3rd in the Central. Really have faith they’ll be able to win the cup then?

To be fair the guy went on an absolute tear during the regular season, put in over 30 goals and played at an elite two-way level, but I can't imagine they're blithely unaware of 2 empty netters in 20 playoff games.

Svechkov
LHeureux
Kelly
LOC
Big Hughes
Brindley.

These guys are going to combine for 75 goals from the bottom 6 forwards. And Sleepy Joe is going to be doing the helicopter dick at centre ice at Ball arena every time one of them scores a goal.

Let's f***ing go!

No, but that has nothing to do with the roster.

It’s because this guy has no plan B to get past Vegas or Dallas.

Does Winnipeg have a backup plan if they lose Hellebuyck? And why does he want out now? He could've bailed a lot earlier than this but chose to sign for max term.

He won a Gold with USA and sees his Olympian buddies having fun teaming up on American teams.

Also, Winnipeg was a pretty good team. They suck now.

Should we move Kadri or Roy if someone really wants a center? Don't want to play Kadri on the wing, and it seems like Joe is going for a youth movement now.

I just don’t think they have the assets for big game hunting.
I think they’re better off going the approach of two quality guys for 2nd and 3rd pair rather than 1 reallly good and one just ok player

Not convinced the Avs will be making use of the 2nd round pick acquired from Columbus. Seems like a 2027 pick would be more useful as trade deadline capital.

Maybe another trade is coming.

I know this off season cycle seems like one for the ages in terms of player movement but just gotta say I can't recall the Avs being this active this early in the offseason. Joe trying to get done to have a longer summer break or is it needed for more work at/before the draft tomorrow?

We had so far and beyond the best roster on paper last year, that I really can't get too bent out of shape about what the roster looks like for next season as long as Bednar is still there. If we couldn't get it done with that roster, then I don't really care what moves we make until Bednar changes the way he coaches, or we hire someone else.

I don't really see the difference going into next playoffs if our roster is 10-15% worse than this season.

Too bad only 2 of those 6 are actual NHL players. RIP Depth
