They simply aren't. We're usually complaining that they leave off more young talent. The fact that they had four under-agers this year was shocking. We also usually go with a bunch of 19-year old goalies. This tournament we went with an 18yo and a 17yo for back-up.
Agree to disagree.:) We have heard the statement many times in the media that this team will be extremely strong next year. With 9 players eligible to return and the tourney supposedly a 19 year old contest there had to be reason. HC could find enough 19 year olds to put a team together in Canada? If so Canada is either falling behind or the playing field has leveled off. For whatever reason the young talent on this present iteration never added a thing to Canada's effort with the exception of George.

It's going to be a tough team to make next year. I think he will be on the team all things considered but what his role is? Hard to say. Could be a 4th line/13th forward.
Sure but that kind of production in the NCAA would be crazy to overlook. Players are 17-24 yo, not easy to produce as a teen. Heck he's 5th in the league in goals per game this year and got snubbed. And the guys he's scoring like is the USA's top line.

If they went with best talent for once....
McKenna-Catton-Martone
Lindstrom-Misa-Sennecke
Iginla-McQueen-Greentree
Bear-Luchanko-Parascak
Desnoyers, Lakovic

Dickinson-Dupont
J Smith-Parehk
Aitcheson-Verhoeff
T Smith, Mews

Ravensbergen
George
Ivankovic
Says a lot about the depth of the group that you went whl heavy and left out Ben Kindel. He should be in with that grouping imo.

I have a feeling Canada is going to bring the big guns next year. These proposed lineups look insanely good. US is looking at a few down years after this year, not sure about the Euro teams

For now they are giving lip service to picking more skill and, based on today's press conference with the heads of Hockey Canada anyway. Even then people should still reasonably expect 3-4 picks to be head scratchers, plus there is almost no chance that Celebrini is the only eligible Canadian in the NHL next year. Add in chances for injuries and the actual Canadian team won't look as good as most of these rosters. Will still probably be a stronger than usual team.

Schaefer was our best dman until getting injured, and McKenna hasn’t really gotten on the scoreboard (few have), but he’s clearly been one of our best forwards. Our young guys certainly haven’t been the problem.

I would think all of Schaefer, Misa, Martone, Sennecke get long looks in the NHL next year. Then there usually seems to be some surprise player that breaks camp.

Yes that is what I'm thinking, those players plus a random or two could get in. Even a guy like Luchanko got into multiple NHL games this season. I believe that 2006 is the only time Canada had just one player in the NHL.

USA and Sweden project to have weaker rosters next year due to not a lot of talent and depth in the 2006 age group for Sweden and a bad group of 07s and just an ok group of 06s for USA. Canada is good in both 06 and 07 especially as McKenna won’t be an NHL risk yet, so I think they have a really good chance to win next year.

As important as choosing the best players is choosing the best coach. Hockey Canada has cycled through a lot of mediocre coaches. In the past it hasn't mattered, but other countries have closed the gap, especially the USA. It will now take the best coaches getting the very best out of our best players.

Choose skill, scoring, game breaking talent and they'll win next year, they have so much talent to choose from.

Only Team Canada is dumb enough to bring/try and make role players to a single game elimination tournament. They're also the same dipshits who don't think practicing builds chemistry. Just role 4 1st lines, they're all 17-19 years old, no one is that good at defensively that they should be brought over a game breaking player.

Any chance Kieron Walton gets a sniff if he keeps up the same play into next year, or is it an uphill battle against the guys who represented Canada at lower levels?
