Holy shit, they lost last night?

I stopped watching after the 8th because I figured Chapman was gonna lock it down.

Just checked the box score......He gave up 3 runs on 8 total pitches?
And Whitlock had11 total pitches in the inning he pitched, giving up 4 hits.

If I was a gambler, I might be skeptical.

But I'm not.

They should trade him TODAY. Do not wait any longer and risk some additinonal bad outings.

With the contracts that even below average MLBers get and the fact that if a large amount of money moved on a random Rockies Red Sox game it'd be flagged for investigation, taking the risk of getting banned for fixing games isn't even financially worth it.

Emanuel Clase got like $20,000 to throw a few balls and manipulate counts for gamblers and it cost him a $4.9m/yr salary.

In January 1920, the Red Sox sold Babe Ruth to the NY Yankees. Ruth went on to win 4 WS titles with New York.

In February 2020, the Red Sox gave away (oops I mean traded away) Mookie Betts to the Lost Angeles Dodgers.

Betts has now won 3 WS titles and counting with LA.

We're only in year 7 of the Mookie Betts Curse.
The Mookie trade was the line of demarcation for the entire franchise. The Red Sox basically told everyone they were no longer operating like the Red Sox. They had homegrown MVP, entering his prime, already proven in Boston, and they chose payroll flexibility over building around him. Everything since then has felt like downstream effects of that decision with their half measures, bridge years, bargain hunting, and selling “future flexibility” to everyone.

I still don't think Mookie wanted to be in Boston long term and would've walked in free agency anyway (despite what he said in interviews after to make himself look like the good guy), but that trade signaled to the rest of the league that John Henry now only cared about value and not winning.

they've run out of ways to fool people. They could always use their financial power to buy themselves out of this situation but won't

Funny, I remember the days when all Sox fans could talk about was how the Yankees just bought championships. How unscrupulous!

Now it's a terrible thing to not try to buy them.

There's nothing really to figure out. They have a garbage lineup of hitters. What do good hitters have for the most part? A command and knowledge of the strike zone. There's nothing the Sox can do to help these guys figure out balls and strikes.
Thats incompetence to the highest degree.

If all the other teams can do it but not the Sox

Just my opinion...

They're not "cursed" by Mookie Betts. They're incompetent. When they stop making poor decisions, they'll start getting better.

You want to call them cheap, that's your opinion.

I would be more likely to call them cheap if they had a middle of the road payroll and were in a dogfight for a playoff spot. But that's not what's going on. They've got a Top 10 payroll and a dogshit record. That doesn't describe a team that doesn't have enough resources to compete - that's a team that's doing a miserable job of using the resources they have.

I never thought I would say this to you, but you just ruined my day.

You’re not wrong, of course. It’s just a bitter pill to swallow.

That's like saying the team needed to instill fundamentals and is to blame for Jarren Duran making an ass of himself in LF on the game winning hit. If this team needs to instruct its players on where the strike zone is or how to play a ball down the LF line, then they are even more f'd then I ever imagined. There is honestly so much blame at every level of this organization that I dont even know where to direct it at times.
