Zacha is a good player. i like him. And I'd love to keep him if our roster was in a better spot

But i think the desire to trade him comes from those who beleive we aren't really that close to a cup roster right now with him. Zacha's value is high. Even If you trade him for picks, those can be packaged to get a more impactful player that helps the team now. Brady trade is an example. Florida traded Samoskevich and flipped the picks, with some existing ones, for a big name player

And this is just a difference of opinion. I agree with your sentiment and that's why I want them to trade Geekie. I think Geekie and Zacha would return similar packages and I would rather turn around and spend those assets on a player that's more similar to Geekie but can possibly hold up against better lines. I don't think Geekie works on a roster with Robertson and Pasta and would rather have Robertson than Geekie. AND I think Dallas would like Geekie bc he's a good cheap option.

I think, with the cap rising, the later years are worth more, so the projected AAV goes up on longer deals.
Which would make sense for some of these deals. A (let’s say) RFA coming off of a middling performance on a one/two year bridge contract. Someone closer to their mid-20’s who would be looking to cash in again on their proceeding contract.

But Zacha at 35 isn’t likely to sign for an increase on an $8M/yr AAV. It doesn’t matter where the cap is. It’d have to… double. And he’d have to be healthy and still be performing at THIS level in his contract year.

if you take into consideration the shortage of available talent, the current position we are in as a hockey club and Zacha’s attractive current cap hit we will probably regret not maximizing a return by trading him. He would undoubtedly fetch far more than he is worth.
This is where I am at. I'd love him locked in as the 3rd liner but Lindholm has that spot for the longterm.

This means he is a HUGE asset going into this weekend.

Sure Geekie is rocking a 20% shooting percent too but he’s done it two years now and has an elite shot and finish ability. High IQ in getting into scoring positions in the offensive zone.

Even if he floats down to a 15% shooting average he’s still good for 25-30 goals. At that cap hit, it’s still an incredible deal.

I don’t understand trading Geekie nearly as much as Zacha. I actually don’t understand it at all. He’s a great finisher for any line in the top six.
I don't believe you trade Geekie for futures. He would be super valuable for a young team on the cusp of a run though, like if SJ or Chi make a run next season, they could unload a Misa or Frondell for immediate help, for example. So, the time to trade him is not now.

Zacha on the other hand, trade is now. Again, not futures, but find a young first round player that perhaps hasn't hit on all their potential yet. This past year was really a setback to the retool on the fly. They should have had their own top ten again, and, if they were as lousy as that, likely would have had Toronto's as well. That would have given them the ammunition to really make a splash this year. Oh well, plan B.

Why do so many people want to trade Zacha? We have pathetic C depth and he's the best one we've got, I don't get it...
He's going to ask for 8+ million a year. He is a 3rd line C in the playoffs.

Lindholm has that spot locked up and cannot be traded.

The league is overpaying. Zacha is what a lot of teams are looking for.

If you think Boston WILL NOT sign him to 8x8 you trade him. You cannot let him walk when you see what value he has.

Guy scored 30 goals last season and people want to deal him for futures. I don't get this fanbase sometimes. If he was on Seattle we would be offering 2 firsts for him
Many of us just don't buy into him as a playoff performer and the numbers support that.

I just cannot fathom giving 2 G in 30+ NHL playoff games Pavel Zacha 64 million dollars.

But that is what he is going to get on the UFA market.

Zacha's 82 game average for goals is 18 per year on 13% shooting.

This year he scored 30 goals on a 23% shooting average.

If Zacha scored at his typical 13% average then guess how many goals he would have? 17

This is textbook career year and selling high. Sweeney 100% should be listening to all offers coming in on Zacha
And once you add in the playoff performances and the price tag he will command in a year from now, it's a pretty simple move UNLESS he signs an extremely friendly extension and the Bruins can move Lindholm somehow.

I'd rather have playoff Lindholm healthy than playoff Zacha though.

FWIW, projections for Zacha's next contract:
  • AFP = 5 years @ $7.32M
  • MuffinHockey = 8 years @ $9.9M (5 years @ 7.83M)
This is what scares so many of us and the most logical answer to anyone asking, 'why are so many people wanting to trade Zacha?'

This is why. No one sees him n Boston as that value and Lindholm has that spot locked up.
