2026 NHL Draft: We won #2! Reid or Stenberg for the win; taking Verhoeff is a drafting sin!

  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
The more I think about it the more I'm convinced that it will be a failure if we actually end up using the 9th pick to select a player.

I have no idea if he's available or even willing to come here but if he is Grier has to put 2OA+9OA++ on the table for Werenski.
I really hope that report that Werenski wants to meet AFTER the draft isn't fully accurate, and that Waddell has pushed it up given what happened yesterday

Columbus has to see the writing on the wall no? Obviously Werenski has final say with his NMC but if they know he's not sticking around past 2028 getting Stenberg to pair with Fantilli along with other assets wouldn't be the worst outcome

I imagine CBJ does, but Werenski doesnt care what return they get. He can operate on his own timeline, which isn't great news for teams like us

I mean the Eklund trade is screaming that MG will not play around anymore. He's clearly on the mission to get the pieces he needs for the next step.

His grand hope was to draft Ivar Stenberg, who could be the ideal winger for Bedard. Davidson was wishful Stenberg would fall to them at No. 4, but he was also more than willing to pony up a package to obtain the second pick from the San Jose Sharks. When the Sharks made their own major move Tuesday to acquire the ninth pick for forward William Eklund, it became apparent to Davidson the Sharks would be drafting Stenberg on Friday. That dream was over. —

I wonder if that would have been one of the big defense… or even Frondell. Because the Knies rumors are they wanted 4OA AND Frondell.

This off-season is bananas

If he has to pay an equivalent Nemec and/or Byram price for a dude that's better than them, shiiit, idk, try to get the best bluechip D you can get in this draft, sign a stop gap

St Louis would have no use for Stenberg when they would not have a single functional NHL center on their roster or in their pipeline. Hence why they have squashed the Thomas chatter post deadline. Teams don't do full gut job rebuilds here, so they are not going to tear it down, nor would Stenberg be a winger they would/should try and build around (not even factoring that Holloway, Snuggerud, and Neighbours are locked into their top 6 moving forward.
Well, they just got Connor McMichael so there’s one.

Brodie chatting with Morehouse, I’m always interested in what Morehouse has to say. And HockeyProspect talks about their opinions on the top D in the draft.
