2026 NHL Draft: We won #2! Reid or Stenberg for the win; taking Verhoeff is a drafting sin!

Honestly, this is a lot more intriguing. If it was 7 and Bjork was off the board in addition to the big three, I'd be interested. We'd have our choice of at least three of Reid, Verhoeff, Smits, Rudolph, and Carels.

I like Reid best, but all of them intrigue me and Morrisey would demonstrate what a legit #1 can do with Celebrini.

31 is just a bit too old, but if we got a long-term pillar and a 5 year solution, I'd at least think about it.
Why would you want Bjorck off the board? Not that we don't need to fill out our blue line, but he would be really good value at that pick.

Because it would guarantee at least one of Verhoeff, Carels, and Reid, in addition to Smits and Rudolph.

Bjork is really good, but every year there’s the ‘next Brayden Point’ and it seldom works out. And for SJ, I think you’ll struggle to build around 5 sub-6’1 forwards, and I’m not sure Bjork or Eklund could be flipped for an elite Dman.

I mean Stankhoven just played 2C on a cup contender, so it’s not impossible, but I’m sure not sure he fits our team composition.

Maybe Chicago will draft him at 4, and we’ll see what Frondell and a sub 5’11 top 6 can do.

Every year there's an undersized center with Bjorck's ability and production? You're gonna have to show your work on that.

Cam Robinson’s Monday prediction for SJS’s 2OA pick (via the sekeres and price show, VAN radio):

Stenberg is in the lead (based on vibes and what others around the league are telling him)

Think Reid is also likely… but Carels and Verhoeff are dark horses.

Keeps pushing that teams really really like Carels.

I always love that in order to figure out what the Sharks are doing, these guys talk to "others around the league" because no one with the Sharks is telling them anything.

Down to less than 4 days of this......"stuff" (the real word I am self-censoring) before we find out what the Sharks are going to do. Never have been this in the dark about a high Sharks pick and not in the first round since we picked Dickinson.

Momentum is definitely gaining towards Stenberg at #2 but lets be honest none of these insiders really knows at this point, especially if last year is any example. I don't think we can be confident who the pick is until draft day when Sheng gets word from his source on who they think the pick is but I do think it will be between Stenberg and Reid.

I do wonder with Carels how big of a factor his concussion will play into where he gets picked. He missed 2 playoff games because of it but then played the final 9 games. According to Pronman "The fact that Carels had to skip testing, I believe it was due to some lingering concussion symptoms, I think that's stuff that people are going to look into. I don't believe it's believed to be that serious. These are all just minor conversations happening in the coming days to the draft." ESPN also reports "He missed combine testing while recovering from a concussion with some lingering neck pain."

Betting lines for the #2 pick are all in favor of Stenberg going #2 with Reid still close behind, with everyone else being very unlikely to be the pick. I wouldn't read to much into it until draft day, it will be interesting to see how the odds look then.

Unironically this is a great thing about this front office

The best teams tend to avoid leaks, good to have a well run organization where everyone is on the same page and they know how to keep their mouths shut

These analysts crack me up. “I’m hearing Stenberg is likely the pick but also maybe Reid. But also, maybe Carels or Verhoeff.” It’s like, what’s the most long winded way of saying “I don’t have a f***ing clue”

With the #2 pick in the draft the San Jose Sharks appear to be circling the wagons around any one of the top 10 or so ranked prospects by central scouting

And it's the 4 guys they took to dinner at the Combine, listed in the same order as the public scouts have them ranked. Really going out on a limb there Mr. Robinson!
