2026 NHL DRAFT Thread

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
Was kind of hoping for more questions......should I just make my own thread? 🤔

Thought you were gonna have Smits lower. Did you watch any of Elofsson?

I kept moving Smits around; I could've had him higher. It's not like I view any of those other guys as true top liners. I think his range of outcomes is too wide in a weak class to be ranked lower. I'm going to bet on him being a plus athlete in both ends who bombs pucks (with PP upside) and has fun power moves, probably want him with a better passer. I can live with the rawness and structural inconsistencies today. Maybe he's Broberg, maybe he's Nurse, maybe he's something else.

I did not watch Elofsson.

Based on a positive comment you made the other day and your ranking, I want your thoughts on Scherbakov solely because I sort of blind picked him in two mock drafts on this site (ours included) within the last three months.

I detest scouting MHL games because they can lead you astray. Good luck with Russian D too, so I'm out on a limb here. He's clearly more talented with the puck seeing the ice than some other mid-late 1st round defenders, while being 6'5 with respectable skating, even if the short area stuff could be worked on. Intuitive connective stuff, good stretch passing, huge reach shielding it, not panicky. He's even pretty solid in his own end. I feel okay ranking him with Rudolph there as 2nd pair types. Verhoeff is absolutely more skilled than both, but his skating gives me red flags in about every way......he basically moves like he's a mediocre skating wing.

Malholtra Tier 2 vs Bjorck Tier 3 - discuss? Is it more than Bjorck's lack of high end speed? Or am I just not seeing what others see in Malholtra?
