  • Congrats to our latest Sportsbook winners - GOLD MEDAL kihei, SILVER MEDAL fish7 and BRONZE MEDAL Sammy Kat - new tournament begins today 6/15
My earlier favourite was Adam Novotny but he's moved up a fair bit from early rankings so he's probably gone.
Bleyl is only 165 lbs so although he will likely grow and add muscle that's light for a D man. Has skill but I actually prefer MacBeath if you are drafting D.
Sleeper pick for me is Jaxon Cover. Really good on the wall, would fit the ideology, his potential is intriguing.
Jack Hextall is the kind of guy the Flyers seem to like and ya, he'd be another third liner in time and probably not much else.

It's a gamble at this spot no matter what so in that order if still there I take Novotny, MacBeath, Cover.

Having just watched him a bit, I don’t mind Cover — there’s a legit depth NHLer in there — but I think his story overshadows the fact he might not be that skilled? It’s a bit like Luchanko in the sense that I think the tape needs to sell me on the supposed upside, and I’m not sure it does. Above average athlete, pretty positionally smart for his limited experience, but he has iffy hands under pressure (although he’s a decent small space passer). At age 18, I don’t think you get more skilled because hockey skill is probably the most nuanced of the major sports. Being a late convert to ice hockey doesn’t automatically mean you have a ton of head room like it does for others sports. A late position swap (Miller) maybe.

Hextall is one of the scariest guys in the 1st round. There’s a ton of floor-ish guys that might be sub-NHL, and he’s one of the most egregious to me. Being a terrible mover makes me not want to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

Thought Morozov was a Flahr type, this confirms it.

He’s 100% one of the most likely guys. Big center, deceptive counting stats, most floor guy to floor guy. Him or Suvanto (who is probably worse?). Maybe Hurlbert.

A fun change of pace would be taking someone with monster stats whose tape says, “Eeeek.” Even when they go stats pick, they’d f*** it up because that’s what a bad process team does: veer dumb the other way.

Cover and Hextall are both pretty meh to me. Wouldn’t draft either.

Can’t see them taking a winger.

The combine always surprises me in terms of the (relatively) low V02 max scores.

Of course hockey is not an endurance sport, and guys are pretty heavy for height...

But V02 max also directly impacts your anaerobic capacity as you can clear lactate faster afterwards... which would help a lot in terms of continued impact over a game as you can recover quicker between shifts.

And going through a similar process at the same age in water polo (but not a top tier nation, like the ~15th best in the world at best), where guys are generally even heavier in terms of weight vs height... as well as knowing a few pro rugby guys growing up...

only 5 guys out of 120 hitting 60 is kind of wild.
And only 16 hitting 55.
25 hitting 54.

Wilder when you consider that McKenna (170lbs), Villeneuve (164lbs), Larys (168lbs) are kind of "tiny" weight wise which helps them a lot.

Think it is indicative that HALF of the guys to hit 54 were Euros... when 1/4 of guys in attendance are Euros. IE they have grown up in a "pro" training environment.

I would expect more guys to have 55+ scores just as a bye-product of training so regularly.

Just listened to the Athletic Prospect podcast with Pronman and Wheeler. Say what you want about their rankings but with McKenzie retired, they tend to have the best information on where prospects will go in the draft.

Wheeler mentioned Maksim Sokolovskii is rises fast and he's hearing he'll go early 20s. 6'8 dman from the London Knights.

We know who are pick is going to be lmao

Yo.

Best skating players in the Flyers range. Any thoughts on names?

My level of skepticism about the Flyers' record of drafting and/or trading picks has completely ruined what used to be a joy for me. Get the main lists of prospects, go through any video available (I used to VHS the WJC, for example) to see who is good. Pull together a list of my favorites in the Flyers' range, only to get to Draft Day and watch them traded away the picks or trade down, then pick total stiffs instead of great players available. I give up. I'll take a look, but I'm not wasting time wondering what idiots are going to do...

Funny you say that.

I used to think I was there (apathy), but that little run at the end of the year. The first few games against Pittsburgh before all the Michkov bullshit…

Showed me the fire is in there still. Was nice to feel that.

They are dummies, but they are our dummies. I’m okay to say that.

The Flyers could realistically take a worse player than Morozov, but I feel very confident he’s the most floor guy to floor guy. Positioning, work ethic, he’s got that stuff down. But I see another Berglund-type: better mover, slightly worse hands. He wins pucks, goes low-high, sometimes lowers the shoulder, stands in front. His profile is a bit like a blander Luchanko where the August birthday and production says upside, but the tape just doesn’t sell me on more than a bottom 6 center. It’s actually his maturity that seems noteworthy, not his rawness. He jumps levels every season to blur things, but he doesn’t look terribly skilled.

Hemming, Cullen, Lawrence all have August-September birthdays too. I see the skill and age upside for those guys. Probably the only forwards outside the top 10 I have interest in. I think Cullen is the forward with the 3rd best puck skills + wiggle I’ve seen this class honestly. He feels high variance on draft day.
