GDT: 2026 Free Agency Frenzy: Wed. July 1st | 12 PM

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Xenforo Cloud is upgrading us to version 2.3.11 on Monday July 20, 2026 at 12:00 AM PST. Expect a temporary downtime during this process. More info here
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

What the heck? Why would he be upset if he's the one asking for the move?
He wants to pick his destination like all the rest of them these days but he's probably off his meds refusing to go to Dallas but will go to the Figs
I did some snooping. It's two things

1) he's allegedly upset the Dallas trade was leaked despite his NMC clearly giving him a say in the trade talks. What I mean is, CBJ shouldn't have accepted a trade with DAL and got DAL all activated before getting Werenski's input.

This makes sense to me, because now the entire NHL thinks he is a diva etc. when he's never asked for a trade to Dallas.

2) He seems to want to stay east. His wife is from near Toronto allegedly... Tampa is a very well run and ambitious organization (also have low taxes). I don't think Toronto is a real player, personally.

Also, I've heard over and over and over that intra-conference and intra-division trades don't happen so evil impatient Habs fans should never get irritated if the Habs don't acquire a player from another atlantic division or eastern conference roster.

i'm prepared to be disappointed as we do nothing but sign AHL scrubs tomorrow. Local scrubs
You can choose to focus your attention on the Development Camp instead, where you can follow overagers the Habs will be drafting next year. You can also keep count of whoever gets maimed by Gleb.

Relax everyone, can you all just wait until...

TDL
End of Season
Draft Day
July 1st
Season Opener
Thanksgiving
Christmas
Chinese New Year
TDL

:sarcasm:
Hmm... In that span we saw:

Trades additions:
Carrier, Dobson, Bolduc, Danault

Signings:
Blais, Veleno, Texier

5 of 7 additions that played large roles in moving us from league basement in Dec '24 to ECF in '26

With any luck, the next 18 months will be just as positive!

We'll worth the "wait" lol

I would give Trouba, or Marchment 6x6.

Im not sure the habs can really afford to do both and thats assuming theyd want to come here.

Just saw Lauzon got 6 years at 4 mill per, so yeah. We'll see a lot of comments about middle 6. Or lower and bottom pairing d getting over paid easily.
Two contracts that will age horribly and bring minimal short term positive results.

I don't see anyone in this UFA class worth a long-term big money deal. Fans need to be patient. I'd rather run back close to the same lineup with a few adjustments than handcuff this young team in its Cup contending years.

I don't want either player or contract but if we take a step back, even adding a Mason McTavish (who, as @FerrisRox shared with his in-the-know sources, the Habs org did not rate his possible integration on a physical/playstyle level) would've nevertheless tangibly improved the roster.

Just consider that it would be a Better Player displacing the 12th Player.

Marchment > Veleno
Trouba > Struble/Carrier/Xhekaj
etc.

I don't want their contracts, personally. Too much downside for the upside. But the upside IS a better roster for the immediate future.

The objective should be to go from Playoff Team, Underdogs In Every Round to Playoff Team, Evenly-Matched Against Most (except maybe FLA)

Unlike with Bergevin who didn't seem to even have that ambition, Hughes definitely wants to improve the roster. Fixing the 10th position or the 3rd position would improve the roster. I think we will see some FA signings, at the very least around the 10-11-12 positions in case Beck falls short at Training Camp. Maybe they run it back with Veleno after Veleno tests the market (I think Veleno will get a contract elsewhere)
