2026 Draft Thread

It will be interesting to see if and how much Viggo Björck keeps growing. His brother is 6ft and their father is 6’2 so I guess there’s still hope. The last Swedish forward that came up with that level of IQ is probably Bäckström. His stats this year were just insane. He scored the most points ever during a season in the J20 and he did this as a 16 year old. He outpaced the Sedins, Elias Pettersson, Lucas Raymond, William Nylander and every other top Swedish talent at the same age. The potential is crazy. If he just grows a little he’s in contention for second overall.

Roobroeck is the perfect consolation prize if we dont get McKenna.
Im a skeptic on Roobroeck. He didn’t have a great U18 worlds, but the size is intriguing. Plays more like a winger. Belchetz might be the guy to look at for size. I admit both I have not seen much yet, but are getting high praise by evaluators

Man the idea of both, but especially Belchetz is so good. I expect a healthy down great by years end once everyone gets truly found out like it always happens, but early on the draft is looking really good.

This is an absolute pipedream but it's so funny to me I can't resist. Imagine the irony of hating Seth Jones for as long as we did because he, fair or not, symbolized the lean years of the rebuild and then that draft pick we got for him turns into McKenna. Like it's possible that FLA loses Bennett, Marchand, and Ekblad after this year, the rest of the team gets tired after 2 straight years playing into June, Barkov gets hurt, Jones turns back into the guy we remember, and Bobrovsky struggles.

Somehow they finish 10th worst or something like the Islanders did and win the lottery with that pick.

Like where this is going...the FLA/CHI picks end up 1/2

Then McJesus signs a week later.
It's not completely out of the question especially if he actually hits free agency. It's a young team that is likely ready to push for the playoffs without him with prospects and cap space up the wazoo. Add in that Chicago is an original 6 franchise and an incredibly livable city, it's possible. Not saying it's likely but if he doesn't sign an extension and you see the Hawks play better late next season like they did this last season, you might start to hear some rumblings.

Florida will be gassed after going to 3 straight cup finals. I can see a situation where the Hawks get a really good defenseman that ends up being better than Jones with that Florida 1st. This is a deep year for defensemen. A guy like Ncyz could be available in the mid 1st

This is just from memory but draft hype-wise the last 10 years I'd go:
1. McDavid
2. Bedard
3. Matthews
4. Celebrini
5. Lafreniere
6. Dahlin
7. Hughes
8. Power
9. Hischier
10. Slafkovsky
A lot of people will claim Lafreniere wasn't hyped but I certainly remember him being bigtime hyped. Dahlin was also a bigtime prospect. 4-7 you can debate me on, I think I have 1-3 correct and 8-10 correct. I'd put Schaefer at 8 BTW.

Anyway, I'd put McKenna between Bedard and Matthews, I actually think he's deserving of more hype but his WJC was not good at all so when you're in rare air with Bedard and McDavid types that's the difference.

Dahlin should be higher
