Finnish hockey is cooked and it isn't going to get any better unless they make major changes to their developmental system. Finnish players always have heart, but the talent gap is bigger then ever. This tournament is all USA, Canada, and Sweden.
Yeah, about that...

I feel bad for Sweden. A bad penalty and shitty goaltending did them in. They shelled Finland in the 3rd period and OT. Hopefully they can win the Bronze.

I expected this after the USA game, but even worse, I'm double wrong now. Ill continue to stand by the talent gap growing, but Finland is still getting it done regardless.
The talent gap is nothing new. They don't produce a great deal of superstars, yet they always do well in international tournaments. They do always play effective team hockey. I don't look forward to ever facing them because they've had the U.S.'s number in recent history.

They produce good goalies

Disappointing performance for ASP that game, not bad but not great

Doesn’t change how I feel about him but would’ve loved to see him create more
I thought he was really good, rang one off the post as well. He created a ton of chances and had some really nice passed on the PP. Really good transition game and head manned the puck really effectively.

Hypothetically what could they fetch if they are all-star caliber? 2C or top 4D?

I think most goalie trades involve picks going the other way, usually a 1st plus for the bigger names. Not many goalie swaps for legit skaters. Never know what the landscape will look like by then though.

Tough one for ASP. At some point in the shootout, the Swedish coach was just like, ASP, you're our only hope. Take a million shootout chances.

He had one of their only goals, though. It was a pretty deke. He has fantastic hands for a defenseman.

On the one hand, kind of a let down the last couple games for ASP given where he started the tournament? At least offensively.

On the other hand ... I think some expectations (including mine) were probably really out of whack after that first game. He still had 10 points as a defenseman and was solid defensively.
