Not at all.

He had several bad giveaways that led to goals against, generated exactly zero offense, and took untimely penalties. It's great that he blocked some shots and played physical. The rest of his game is what is lacking.

When drafted by Detroit he had 21 points in 45 games for Soo.
The following season he had 44 in 68.
This season Gibson has 7 in 26. 0 in 5 games at the WJC.

This is a prospect that had no business on that WJC squad.

The Soo Greyhounds are dead last in their division and 3rd worst in the West. "Maybe" that's why a guy who's game is defensive defensemen offense dropped.

As for the WJC you are just flat out wrong. Yah he took penalties as a lot of players did. It's funny he's gets alot of the blame for that last minute penalty which isn't a penalty in non international hockey. Dickinson put the puck in his own net but yah it's Gibson's fault. He was on the top pair the whole tournament and played well.

Cameron was head coach of TC twice before, reaching the final both times, winning gold just three years ago
Thanks to act of god, if we repeat that part in OT where McTavish saves the puck in mid air, in the middle of the goal line, 10 times out of 10 that puck would go in. Damnest thing i ever seen in a hockey game. Cameron had higher powers behind him that night, otherwise Finland would have taken the gold home.

True enough. But making it to the Gold medal final these days is no small accomplishment for Canada, or any team for that matter.

He had a bad tournament. His mistakes cost Canada games. AND he’s having a horrid year offensively. It’s looking like the Kiiskanen trade was a solid move by Detroit.

He had a solid first game where he blocked a bunch of shots killing penalties and got some hype. But you could see why his production is so low as well, had some turnovers, dint look great with the puck on his stick.

Say what you want about what happened after the fact with it, but getting a 2nd attached to Kiiskinen looks like a pretty good trade right now and I think Kiiskinens value has only gone up since. Not sure Gibsons value has gone up at all since

Good luck to ASP, Kiskinen, and Augustine the rest of the way. Did I miss someone? At least Canadian Wing fans can be comforted in that our prospects are doing well

Definitely makes it easier to stay tuned in the rest of the way. Guaranteed to have arguably the best player on the silver and gold medal teams as wings prospects.

I'm not super familiar with all of hockey Canada and other teams prospects. But I believe Lindstrom and Iginla are injured so they couldn't be on the team. Zach Benson is another name off the top of my head I believe that is eligible but too busy playing in the NHL.

It's fun for me to see Canada fail miserably, but I'm sure not acting like the country still isn't producing crazy talent.

Most Canadian fans were upset about this team from the hop. Also hilarious that Sennecke got announced as OHL player of the month with 9 goals and 22 points in 8 games the exact same day Canada got eliminated.

Canada could literally have Bedard - Celebrini as their 1-2 center punch with Benson on one of their wings right now though, so while losing sucks... there's definitely some context there

This the most physical swedish team I ever seen

A lot of that tone is being set by Eklund. For a draft eligible guy he's absolutely brought it this tourney. ASP has actually been a bit of a hammer on the back end too

In William Eklund's draft year, he was the guy that made sense for us and was reasonably likely to be there at that pick. So I spent the season convincing myself that he'd be a star for us one day.

Now perhaps as a result of that exercise, William created a low pressure slipstream in my mental prospect ranking that Victor is rocketing up. I like him even more than William and he's right there with the top 4 for me this year. To me they're both great, responsible, smart 2 way forwards with skill and high end passing. I think Victor is even more creative and has a somewhat better shot than William at the same age. I'm not sure if the stats back that up, but that's how the eye test grades for me. Obviously William's development has gone well so we shouldn't expect Victor to be better, but I think the potential is very much there.

I think Victor is probably still the bottom of the bunch among the top 5, but it varies by time of day and who's highlights I've seen most recently.

Stevie on finnish TV!
They asked him about Kiiskinen and ASP, then Stevie described them. Then compared ASP to Quinn Hughes and Lane Hutson, and hopes ASP comes close to Hughes, because he's the best offensive d-man. Kekäläinen compared ASP to Adam Fox.

Then they asked Stevie about memories against Finland. Stevie's 1st NT game was against Finland and worst NT memory came against Finland in Nagano '98.

Then they asked about leadership, this tournament and how Finland-Sweden game will end.

Lol Finland just letting the the opposite flank of ASP tee off on their goalie on the 4-on-3 as they focus on not allowing ASP any windows.

Unfortunately Thelin was truly really bad. Sweden dominated otherwise. Goalies were the difference.

ASP will just have to settle for winning the Stanley cup instead.
