Congrats to Trey. Makes the loss for a Canadian a little easier to take. The Americans are just better this year. So are the Swedes and Finns.
The problem on this team, which has been the same problem for the past few years for most prospects not named Seider and Raymond: they aren’t being deployed properly in the line up to maximize their potentials.Datsyuk was 23 when he started playing in NHL, Buchelnikov only 21, ASP 19, Danielson 20,
Look at Veleno, just a month ago Veleno 24 was useless, but now he's looking pretty good in the first line. We don't know how good our top prospects are, they are too young
Sounds like an umbrella PP (old school), I haven't watched any of the games, so going off your description, but there was a system once used that had the flankers out closer to the blue line to set up the odd man back door pass and net front tip opportunities by drawing out the defending forwards.Anyone know what sort of system Finland is using for their PP? Kinda odd looking, where they end up with three players across the blue line a lot
Hearing new coach just like music to my ears, he , unlike previous two guys, understand what needs to be done. We are in the right direction, finally. There is players evaluation going on right now and some players will be gone shortly, especially on defense. It's not important for moment why no AJo playing or Kasper linemates. Everything will change when everything is sort out.The problem on this team, which has been the same problem for the past few years for most prospects not named Seider and Raymond: they aren’t being deployed properly in the line up to maximize their potentials.
Veleno in particular has always taken more time at adapting at each level he’s played. I don’t think he will be a 60pt scoring forward; but he definitely has always had 20/20 potential. He has the skillset to be more useful higher up in the line up which he’s been given a few chances on a short leash to do in the past. Hopefully he continues to show the coach reasons on keeping him on the top line.
I would really like for the rest of the line up to be grouped in duos again as Babcock once did. Should be filling out the roster with 2 skilled players paired with 1 work horse. Abdelkader got paid a lot more than he should have for being the “piano puller” for Datsyuk and Zetterberg. If you look at the bodies on the roster, I think a similar set up could bring success…
He has a cannon of a shot and is playing with a lot of confidence.Eiserman is lighting it up this tournament. Such an absolute bummer we passed on him.
And I'm sure there's 31 other teams saying the same about Augustine. Gotta take the good with the badEiserman is lighting it up this tournament. Such an absolute bummer we passed on him.
What does MBN do that’s better than Cole? Besides just have a bigger frame, Cole I think is better than MBN in all aspects of the game.He has a cannon of a shot and is playing with a lot of confidence.
His ceiling in terms of goal scoring is definitely higher than our pick, but I think in terms of all around game play, our pick has a higher ceiling.
Would have been nice to draft a sniper though, this team could use a few more of those…
I’m never too mad about 2nd round+ guys who end up being great or miss since it’s a crap shoot anyway. I do get mad when we pass on prime talent because our scouts think they’re smarter than the rest of the league. That’s the reason we don’t have Eiserman on the team. And I'm sure there's 31 other teams saying the same about Augustine. Gotta take the good with the bad
Unrelenting forecheck. Size. Reach. Handedness. What does MBN do that’s better than Cole? Besides just have a bigger frame, Cole I think is better than MBN in all aspects of the game.
In that case, are you happy or pissed that we took your profile pic instead of Gabe Perreault?I’m never too mad about 2nd round+ guys who end up being great or miss since it’s a crap shoot anyway. In other words, more “safe two way forwards”. Isn’t that exactly what we already drafted with Kasper? How many more 3rd/4th line Kaspers and Rasmussens do we need? We desperately need some dynamic, creative offensive minded players. Huge miss on MBN over this.Unrelenting forecheck. Size. Reach. Handedness.
I'd rather not have to be on the ice against a dude like MBN in the playoffs. Especially since when you remove the goal scoring from Cole, what does he excel at?

Eiserman is lighting it up this tournament. Such an absolute bummer we passed on him.
he plays playoff style of gameI am 100% in disagreement here. MBN is going to be a stud and is exactly the type of Winger the Wings need.
I think you're playing the part of smartest guy in the room with drafting. There is a reason Eiserman fell from being regarded as a 1OA pick to going at 20th to the hapless Islanders.I’m never too mad about 2nd round+ guys who end up being great or miss since it’s a crap shoot anyway. Red Wings rarely draft or sign offense only players. Last 90 point player was Datsyuk, the greatest defensive forward of all time. Last 40 goal scorer was Hossa, a 2 way monster. In other words, more “safe two way forwards”. Isn’t that exactly what we already drafted with Kasper? How many more 3rd/4th line Kaspers and Rasmussens do we need? We desperately need some dynamic, creative offensive minded players. Huge miss on MBN over this.
So they end up with exact the opposite. And, if we're picking from 12-18 like I feel we are this year, Cameron Schmidt is my pick for a dynamic offensive minded forward.
If you like players who play with pace and intensity, Cootes is your guy. He plays a strong 200-foot game because of his motor, allowing him to play up and down the lineup on any team he’s been a part of.
Relentless compete and fearlessness are the two best terms to describe this player. Cootes works hard to keep pucks alive in the offensive zone, and works harder to get pucks back.
Cootes plays the game fast and always puts a good effort in especially along the boards and in defensive situations. He battles very hard and most of the time he exits battles with his team being in control of the puck by his doing, even when battling stronger and bigger defenseman.
Cootes is a relentless competitor who can be deployed in a variety of roles. He has the skill set, and commitment, to match up against top flight opponents in a shutdown role. Cootes also provides better than secondary offence.
The thing that really stands out here is just how much he wants the puck, and he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get it. Cootes is also a solid playmaker, often easily finding teammates in open space.
He is a silky smooth passer. He’s got a snappy wrister that pops off his stick at times. And he shows intuitive off-puck play as well. He’s a sneaky puck hound who pickpockets opponents as they try to break the puck out of their zone or up ice.
He’s a smart, detailed player with quick processing decisions and who is driving results without a top-tier cast of linemates. He doesn’t pop off the screen with pace or skill, but focus in on him for a game and you’ll see all the little things he does to drive positive results for Victoria.
Reschny is an active player who generally works hard in all three zones. He can be deployed in a variety of roles, but leans offence more than checking forward overall. Reschny is usually involved in traffic.
EDIT. oops not draft threadA stout playmaker, Reschny has quick feet, an active motor, and is great at getting himself in spots to pick up rebounds. He’s small at 5-foot-9, but he’s smart enough to get himself out of trouble.
If we're bad enough to pick 5-10 then Eklund is the Yzerman pick.So they end up with exact the opposite.
Braden Cootes
or
Cole Reschny
If we're bad enough to pick 5-10 then Eklund is the Yzerman pick.
Im thinking Desnoyers. If we're bad enough to pick 5-10 then Eklund is the Yzerman pick.
Yeah, don’t think we’re gonna see eye to eye here.I think you're playing the part of smartest guy in the room with drafting. There is a reason Eiserman fell from being regarded as a 1OA pick to going at 20th to the hapless Islanders.
He is having a nice tournament and a good year at BU for sure. MBN has a lot more to offer as a all around player at this point I feel. If both of them hit as NHL players I feel like Eiserman would be a good offensive asset and MBN would be a better all around player. I'd rather have a player in the mold of Mark Stone than Mitch Marner.
Lmao.Eiserman is lighting it up this tournament. Such an absolute bummer we passed on him.
His peers? Who is he supposed to play against in the WJC?Lmao.
Against kids.
