Interesting they would start Hammer the first playoff round game -- after the other had a great game. Maybe they know/assume USA will roll this game and wanted to give G#1 a rest.

:thumbu:

Great move by USA coaches.

Is Canada's lineup out?

Who is in Net?

Sportsnet:

"• Goaltender Carter George will likely be called upon to be Canada’s best player vs Czechia. He’s been the most consistent player for Canada and leads the tournament with a 1.01 GAA and .964 save percentage"

I think the US knows that they have two #1 goalies and don't have to worry about who to put out there. Augustin will take the rest of the games but it's good to not have your backup cold if anything happens.

Hammer looked good again and really one gave up one bad goal (the 2nd). It's good to see the Kings with some promising goalie prospects again. Hopefully Blake doesn't pull an idiot trade again and move one of them.

Whoa Canada. Take a horrible kneeing penalty, CZE scores, lose 4-3
George let in a bad one.

That was a penalty no matter what level you're at. He stuck it out and it made direct contact, it wasn't hip on hip.

The mental gymnastics coming out of Canada trying to color their egregious penalties as “soft” calls is truly something to behold.

Its probably the worst team Canada squad in the last decade, playing undisciplined hockey. Hell of a combo.

You'd think all rooting for Canada was from Edmonton with how much they blamed reffing.

Nice for George to get the top 3 Canada players honor, but he had a bad game when it mattered most. Ah well.

I suppose Slukinsky isn't in US goal for the semifinals, right? 🤔 With apologies, I will re-post below what I've just said about this on the international board.

As an LA Kings fan, I wasn't happy with Carter George's loss, but now that it happened, I hope Czechs will go all the way and win it all.

Especially given that outrage, that monstrosity, that gimmick tournament coming up in February. 🤮

The Czechs are the reigning World Champions in the only Worlds tournament that really matters. (Yup, that's the one in the spring – regardless of Canada's weird obsession with the junior tournament, dating back to Don Cherry's antics over the carnage in Piešťany, Slovakia, way back in the 1980s.)

But I admit that the junior tournament does have some significance, too, so if Czechs manage to win this one as well, it would be absolutely delightful to show the upcoming gimmick tournament of four inferior hockey nations for the fraud that it is: a pseudo-event that no one should watch or cover and that everyone should boycott. I mean, what's the use of a "four nations tournament" to which world champions aren't invited? 🤬

Anteeksi Kaveri!

That's perfectly fine. Slovakia (featuring Chromiak's younger brother, by the way) was embarrassing in this tournament, apart from the Dvorský superstar (for Slovak standards).

What Slovakia did in their game against lowly Kazakhstan will forever be remembered as one of the all-time embarrassing moments in the sport of hockey (similar to Patrik Štefan's failed empty-netter).

I mean, you're leading 4-2, outshooting your opponent 34-14, there are 3 and a half minutes left in the game, your opponent gets a 5-minute penalty, so you go on a 5-minute power-play, yet you allow two short-handed goals so that the game goes to overtime. This has got to be seen to be believed (the decisive mistake for the equalizer was made by Maxim Štrbák, ex-Kings's son, and he blundered again in yesterday's quarterfinal against Finland):

The Stanley Cup
Should have also had, Sennecke, Yakemchuk, Misa and Parekh top end talent but chose questionable kids. But good for the rest of the other countries, cuz Canadian selection committee and coaching stunk. LOL.
Love Dean but Canada's we-know-best attitude this year for roster construction reminds me of Dean's construction of the 2016 USA World Cup where he left more talented players at home and the USA disappointed.
